Oh what a glorious day!
“Come on Angelo, there’s so much to see.”, she burst out in excitement. Despite the excitement of finally leaving the Academy – where she had been ‘rehabilitating’ with the other portaled peopled since she had been thrown into this world, Rinoa also wished she had someone with her to share the excitement. Of course, she had Angelo, but Angelo couldn’t really have much of a conversation. Rinoa would like someone that actually spoke back to her. Of course she didn’t need it, but she would have enjoyed it. The problem with that was that in her excitement to finally get the ‘go ahead’ to leave the Academy for the outside world if she so desired, Rinoa had completely forgotten about the possibility of anyone else going with her. Squall she was sure was busy though, and Quistis…heaven only knew what she was up to. Other than that, they had yet to find any of their other friends.
With her fluffy dog at her heels, Rinoa walked down the sidewalk next to the road that she had been told led out of the city she was in. Of course, she’d been walking for quite some time, and was already on the outskirts. Personally she liked the outskirts better than the full blown city anyway. It was a lot more quant than the bustling city, more what she had been used to recently. And then she saw the cute little café. With a raised eyebrow, Rinoa crouched down to pet Angelo while she considered I she wanted to stop or not. She was hungry, but it was never any fun eating my yourself. Maybe if she sent Squall a message on her phone device that she’d been given by the Academy. Opening it, Rinoa got to Squall’s number and started to slowly text her message out to him.
“Hey Hun! Angelo and I got the go ahead to get out of the Academy. We’re on Sterling Street by a little café called ‘The Hotspot’, want to come for some supper?” It took her quite some time to text all that out on her phone, but finally she managed to get it accomplished and sent it. “Whew Angelo, this whole texting thing isn’t as easy as it looks.”, she mentioned before pocketing her phone and stroking at his hair.
While she waited for a reply, Rinoa cocked her head to the side and looked around them. Now this part of town she liked a lot more than the other side, with its thousands of people and bustle. Even though she could handle that sort of surroundings, she would much rather have a nice little place like this to be. She sure hoped that Squall could come meet her for some supper. They’d been so worried about this whole situation for so long, it would be nice to get out and be able to relax a little bit. As she sat there talking to her dog, she continued to watch the people. When he licked at her cheek, she giggled and snuggled her arms around the neck of her companion.

i am aware now of how everything TAG: Rinoa, Seifer Words: 681
ONE LAST THING: I was very happy with this. ”I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
Squall was trying to avoid rudeness in his exchange with the weapons developer standing across from him, but as the woman continued her barrage of reasons as to why the Academy needed to develop gunblades like his own and distribute them to some of their military trainees, Squall thought that rudeness was the only way to get her to lay off. He let out a puff of air, propping up disgruntledly against the wall, while she continued on with a long dissertation on why Academy trainees were the best and most responsible young people on Gran Pulse and how Squall could train them personally and all sorts of things that the young man didn’t want to hear from her. Apparently, his granting them his gunblade for a couple of days after his arrival, while he’d been keeping an eye over Rinoa’s recovery, wasn’t nearly enough to please these people. Squall stuck a hand up to cut the woman off when her argument reached a ludicrous point. ”They’ve got to be willing to train for five or six years.” Having glanced at some information about the military training in the Academy out of pure curiosity, Squall had noticed that the average specialist typically finished the training in two and a half years. ”Why would they want to spend twice that time learning a weapon that they may never master anyway?’ The woman clicked the heels she was wearing loudly against the floor almost like a little child, convincing Squall to just let her go as she went into another rant. Squinting his eyes nearly shut and resting his head against the wall, he opted on just letting the storm pass.
A buzz in one of his pockets roused him, convincing him to reach into his pocket to free the fancy cell phone, courtesy of the Academy, from his pocket. Squall immediately saw Rinoa’s name on the screen, giving his fidgeting some urgency as he worked to open the text and having long since drowned out the woman’s voice. So far as Squall knew, though, she was still in her room and wanted him to drop by for…whatever. She was creative and would have come up with something by now. His eyes skimmed over the message intently, with him perking up his head a bit to read that she’d already left the Academy. A touch of anxiousness washed over him, but Squall reminded himself that Academia was a safe place mostly. And…no one here knew that Rinoa was a sorceress yet, thankfully. Or he didn’t think they knew. No one had brought it up. He was fairly certain that no one knew what a sorceress was on Gran Pulse, though – there didn’t appear to be any.
Of particular scrutiny was her greeting to him. The faintest indication of a smile reached the side of his eyes. ”Hun…”, he said under his breath, almost not realizing he’d done so. ”What?” Squall ignored the question directed to him, instead fidgeting again and tasking himself with pulling up a map of the city. He marked the street she’d spoken of so he’d know where he was going. Rinoa didn’t know it, but she’d managed to narrowly save a fairly good mood Squall had been in possession of before this lady in the glasses had accosted him. He typed up a response back. I’ll be a few minutes. He paused just before sending it, almost rolling his eyes at himself. ”…hun,” he convinced himself to add at the end, before sending the message and pushing up off of the wall as his phone returned to his pocket. ”Someone else needs me.” To the sound of protests and more stomping of heels, Squall exited into the hallway and took a breath of relief as he headed out to where the shuttles were, hoping one could get him to the place Rinoa had indicated quickly. Safe as Academia claimed to be…Squall would still feel better within arm’s length of her.
Maybe for more than one reason that he could now admit to.

Stroking Angelo for a few more moments, she finally straightened from the dog and waved him after her while she walked toward the small table. The entire place really looked just…adorable. Rinoa couldn’t stop smiling while she walked up to the table that had caught her attention. Settled back and under a canopy, it allowed her to see the road and the people that were trotting by, going on with their day in the hurry they were.
Soon she was seated on the chair she had wanted and was making herself quite comfortable. After that she leaned back and cocked her head to the side while she watched the same people that seemed in such a hurry to go on to wherever their destinations were. Angelo’s paw on her thigh and his whimper was enough to distract her momentarily from what she was watching, earning him a smile and a coo from her lips. “Don’t look so sad Angelo! He’ll come, you’ll see.”, she assured.
The buzz of her phone caused her to take her phone from out of her pocket and fumble around to open it once more. This thing was taking quite a bit of getting used to…that was for sure. Once she finally managed to get the message open and read it, Rinoa couldn’t help that her smile widened even more so, her eyes sparkling in delight. “I’ll be a few minutes…hun.” It was the last part that she read and reread, before she nearly squealed. A moment after she had recovered Rinoa twisted and showed her faithful companion what he had written. “Don’t you see it Angelo? Hun! He called me hun.” With a blissfully happy look on her face, Rinoa was pulled back out of her gleeful place when the waitress patted her on the shoulder. “Excuse me miss. Were you ready to order?” With perhaps the same little grin on her lips, Rinoa shook her head. “I’d like a water please, but I’m waiting for someone.”
The other woman nodded and was ready to leave when Rinoa suddenly caught her arm and showed her the phone. “Look, he called me hun.” The slightly older woman simply grinned down at her in a motherly way while she patted her shoulder. “That’s nice dear.” It was a wonder that her grin didn’t split the sides of her face, but somehow it managed to remain intact. ‘Can’t wait!’, she sent back before setting her phone on the table and leaning back to sigh in appreciation for the day. When the waitress came to give her the water she’d requested, Rinoa couldn’t help but comment again. “It’s such a wonderful day, isn’t it?” “To a young woman in love, perhaps.”, she commented while she walked away.

ONE LAST THING: Bleh, worst ending ever.
It didn’t take Squall long to find a shuttle that would take him to the proper district of the city, and he settled into a solitary seat away from several of the other travelers in time to notice the cell phone vibrating again. Squall didn’t exactly know what would result from his somewhat jokingly returning the pet name that she’d assigned to him for her first text, but she seemed happy enough as he read her simple response. He dropped the phone back in his pants pocket and leaned back in his seat, planning to do little aside from stare at the ceiling during the extent of the trip and think of all the ways he could get the lady weapons developer to leave him alone about his gunblade. Instead, he felt the distribution of weight on the seat shift and cut his eyes over to notice a middle-aged woman sitting down on the opposite end from him. He didn’t think much of her until he felt something pulling on the end of his coat. Another glance revealed the two children between him and the mother, who now had her face buried in a magazine, leaving the children to crawl their way over to Squall and stare up at him in anticipation. Ignoring them seemed to at first work, until a tiny voice and another yank drew his head towards them.
”What is that thingy on your belt mister!?”
…Great.
--------------------------------------------------
Fortunately, the two children, after Squall had bothered to explain to them what his gunblade was and informed them that it wasn’t illegal for him to carry a weapon around, had proven to have the same attention span of Zell or Selphie and had run off to start plastering stickers on the window of the shuttle without their mother caring. Squall could bring himself not to care for his own sanity, too, so he didn’t rebuke them until the shuttle was starting to touch down and let its passengers free. Standing from his seat, Squall crossed behind the children. ”You know what happens to kids who stick things on windows…”, he commented, simply as he crossed by. There was silence from the two until a barrage of questions about what really happened came his way as he was exiting. Naturally, nothing happened, but the children didn’t know that. Putting them out of his mind, he let his eyes scan the length of the street. He found the place Rinoa had mentioned in her message, and after checking over his shoulder as he always did, Squall started off towards it.
A waitress interrupted him as he stepped up, thinking he spotted Rinoa at one of the tables already. ”Are you with the young lady?” He’d have to assume she only meant one specific young lady, so Suqall gave her a slow nod. ”Mhmm…right this way.” Squall couldn’t help but eye the woman at the way she’d responded, but he decided not to think too much about it. Instead he only followed her up towards the table where Rinoa and her frequent companion were waiting. Squall had never been the most comfortable around dogs, making his attempt to settle into his seat around Angelo a slightly awkward one. Once settled into the seat, though, his eyes resided only on the brunette across from him, and he rested his chin on his hands. ”I thought you were in bed resting,” he said, inviting her to tell him what had brought her out here already. The waitress was, for the moment, forgotten.

Rinoa beamed at the waitress as she walked away, before curling her hand around the glass she had been given and lifting it to her lips. While she sipped at the water she had been given, Rinoa couldn’t help but glance more thoroughly at the café she had stopped beside. The theme throughout the tiny little in and out café seemed to be the wild bird that was found through the world. The chocobo was perhaps the one thing that both the world here and her own world had in common. At least it was something anyway, she could deal with everything else that was new…the changes, the new people, the lack of real security, and everything like that if she had a few familiar things around her. Having Squall there with her at the Academy was a start. Despite being worried about her other friends, Rinoa knew that she could handle what came if Squall was there. He was her champion from so many times.
Speaking of which. There he was. Rinoa was warned when Angelo showed signs of recognition. It was subtle hints, the flicker of his ears and a low whine deep in his throat that started it, before he finally rose from his position lying down to sit on his haunches. Swiveling her gaze around, the brunette immediately saw the man she had been waiting for. A smile widened across her features while she raised her hand to wave at him from across the café. Her happiness spread to her eyes, which had begun to sparkle as well. “Squall!”
While he tried to get himself situated around Angelo – who was stubbornly refusing to shift his position to allow Squall an easier go of it – Rinoa half-rose from the seat she had been resting on for the last while. Bypassing his arms, Rinoa attempted to give him a hug from where she was, and managed to do so. Spontaneously she gave him a kiss on the cheek and finally plopped down on her seat. It was only then that she remembered that he had said something. “I’m so tired of just laying around,” she sighed, before leaning over the table and resting her chin on the palm of her hand, her sparkling brown eyes looking at him.
“And then I got the go ahead to get out of bed finally and explore the place. I was so excited to get out of that building and actually get out that I forgot to ask if you’d want to come with me exploring.” Rinoa thought her explanation was sound enough. “I think I might have screamed if I had had to stay inside for one more minute.” Rinoa was scooting her chair closer and had ended up resting her hand on his arm while she continued to speak. Without realizing what she was doing, she began to stroke his arm with her fingertips “How was your day? I missed you.”

i am aware now of how everything TAG: Rinoa! Words: 611
ONE LAST THING: Woo! Got his muse back with this one!
Squall was at first conscious of the fact that he was probably making a completely awkward show of trying to hug Rinoa across the table. One arm found the middle of her back to meet the motion, but the other bothered to keep him from knocking his chair over; he wasn’t exactly smooth enough to manage seating himself and a hug across the table at the same time, it would seem. Feeling Rinoa’s lips press against his cheek, however short the kiss was, totally dissolved any thoughts about how clumsy he must have looked, and it was with a rather dreamy, surprised expression that he leaned back into his seat once she released him. Squall cleared his throat slightly and slowly crossed his arms over his chest, almost missing the first of what she was saying for studying the features of her face –mainly those same lips - with a rather numb but contented look.
For favor of comprehending her explanation, though, Squall snapped calmly out of the spell that had been cast and leaned forward to rest his elbows on the table and listen. Even that small act turned into a distraction, feeling Rinoa’s hand make it to his arm. A feeling that had only recently become familiar too him again crept into his psyche, causing him to shift in his seat slightly at the play of her hand. Now he knew why SeeD training had always ensured that the students had understood the power of attraction and why it could be a man’s – and woman’s, though he naturally hadn’t been a part of that lecture – downfall on a SeeD mission. At the time, Squall had never thought that such advice would apply to his opinion of any woman. Now he knew that he had been horribly wrong.
It was a good thing Rinoa had never been one of his targets, because he would have failed miserably at taking her down. He tried not to think of her in such a way, either, considering what many would have had him do about her due to her sorceress nature. He blinked heavily at the thought, subconsciously moving his hand comfortably around her elbow as if someone was again going to try to take her away. As long as the Academy didn’t find out – and if they’d released her out into Academia without mentioning her powers, they had – things on Gran Pulse would be alright for the both of them.
Enough of his reverie, though. They were only having a meal together. He again straightened some in his seat to answer her question to him, though he didn’t much want to answer it. ”I’ve been bugged about my gunblade all day…”, he honestly reported, though “all day” was only an innocent exaggeration. He turned a genuinely appreciative expression onto the dark eyes before him. ”Thanks for sparing me. Some researcher was trying to throw a temper tantrum, stomping and all.” He shrugged a little, letting her know it wasn’t anything to get concerned about, though. If they kept driving the point to him that they needed to distribute gunblades to their trainees, he could make himself scarce, and making himself scarce probably involved finding more time to spend with Rinoa. It was a win-win either way, even for him as a workaholic.
”So you’re feeling okay?”, he asked her, giving her a knowing look. Even if no one was around to listen to their conversation, with the waitress now standing at a short distance and seemingly watching them, it was in his nature to keep quiet when speaking of a secret that only the two of them and their friends shared. ”No…problems?”

Rinoa was so gleeful on seeing Squall, she didn’t even notice that the hug might have been slightly awkward. Instead she simply sat back and smiled up at him like he was some sort of knight in shining armor, having come to rescue her from some dragon. As always, it seemed as if the words just came tumbling out of her mouth as soon as he came near, and she found herself telling him her thoughts. She really had been sick of resting for so long. When presented with the opportunity to leave, she had jumped on it, happy to get some fresh air and leave her confines behind. For so long she had been completely free and able to go or do whatever she wanted, so to be stuck in a few rooms and not allowed to leave that space had been extremely hard for her. Thankfully that was over with now and she would hopefully continue to have this freedom that had been given to her.
It only took a few moments for her to explain herself and ask him how his day had been so far. While she waited expectantly for his reply, she stroked his arm and peered up at him. It felt so nice to have him be a little mellower about talking to her about what he was actually thinking and feeling. Of course he slipped back at times and was still quiet, but overall she wasn’t left to wondering anymore. Of course, the fact that she had become better at reading his moods helped as well. “Why were they bugging you about your gunblade?” Rinoa didn’t quite get why they would be bugging him about his weapon, though she did figure it had something to do with wanting him to show them how to use it. The moment he mentioned a researcher however, it clicked in her brain. She’d already noticed that the researchers seemed to be a bit…overzealous about their weaponry and ideas on how to advance the Academy. She supposed she could understand, with the civil war that was raging around them, but she found it a bit pushy nonetheless.
Somehow though, the thought of a researcher throwing a hissy fit reminded her of her friend Selphie. A little giggle burst from her lips, quickly stopped when she pressed her fingers against them. A moment later she removed her fingers and returned them to his arm. “I’m sorry, that was just too funny.” Yet another vision of a disgruntled Selphie came to mind. “She was even stomping?”
The next moment her smile slipped from her face. Quickly she masked that by smiling again, though it was less carefree than previous and a little more tense. “I-…oh yes, of course I’m feeling alright.” That wasn’t exactly the full truth, but Rinoa didn’t want Squall to have to worry about her either. The reason she had been held for so long by the Academy to rest had been her fainting that once. Well…it had been only once that they had caught her anyway. In the time there, it had happened three times. Each of those times had been different lengths of time and she had woken to remember nightmares that she must have dreamt while she was unconscious. Each dream had gripped her, and had felt so real that when she had woken – confused because she was usually on the floor – she normally thought that it had actually happened. Thankfully the medical staff at the Academy had written it off as some fancy term that she thought basically meant the chaos and being transported to Gran Pulse had affected her in a more severe way than it had others. Even though they said it happened to a few people, Rinoa couldn’t help but feel like it was something else. Why else would Ultimecia show up in her dreams?
Or perhaps she was over thinking this. That was entirely possible…and she found herself hoping that was the case. In the meantime, she didn’t want to worry Squall – and she knew this would worry him – so she would not tell him about it unless it continued to happen. For a moment she couldn’t keep the worried look from passing over her face, but quickly tried to disperse it and lighten back up. “I’m still just a bit weary I suppose, but the extra rest has helped with that. And getting to come out here and see everything! Isn’t it wonderful here Squall?” Even as she tried to change the subject, Rinoa wondered again if she should perhaps tell him. Quickly she changed her mind.
It wasn't anything harmful anyway...right?

i am aware now of how everything TAG: Rinoa! Words: 702
ONE LAST THING: Bah, what was this post.
Just thinking about having to go back to the Academy later and deal with another assault from those who wanted their grabby hands all over a gunblade would have made Squall frustrated all over again if not for his company. Instead, he only rolled his eyes. ”They want to duplicate it,” he responded, his tone indicating how ridiculous he thought the idea was. ”And once they duplicate it, they’ll give the duplicates to trainees who won’t train half the time I had to.” Squall couldn’t remember if he’d ever explained to Rinoa how long it took to get used to a gunblade, but considering he’d tried to avoid saying anything more than necessary to her before…recent events, he doubted he’d brought it up before. It wouldn’t be a part of his current story, though. Rinoa would know it was simply a long time until a gunblade became second nature.
Caught up in his own thoughts and the distraction that any kind of contact with Rinoa provided, his eyes rose to her in confusion at her breaking into a giggle. At one point, Squall had always found himself offended when Rinoa broke into laughter around him. His natural reaction to things had been to think that people were laughing at him about most things, and something about the way Rinoa laughed around him had bothered him. He understood why now, with how he’d realized it was because he had been…attracted to her, and all he could really do in response to this outbreak of laughter was blink at her a few times before she explained what it was she was laughing at.
At the time he’d been dealing with the annoying weapons developer, he hadn’t thought it particularly funny, but the idea of having a grown woman throwing a temper tantrum was genuinely ridiculous at best and pretty sad at worst. A faint sense of amusement did make it to Squall’s features as he nodded in response to Rinoa’s question. ”She almost broke the heel off her shoe,” he reported, thinking it would have been justice if she had done so.
The amusement, though, saw fit to leave as soon as Squall spotted the smile on Rinoa’s face fade. His own expression turned to one of concern even as she seemed to flicker back to her previous mood, and almost subconsciously, his arm slid away from under hers and found a more comfortable, if rather desperate, position at her wrist that would have indicated his concern as well as any words would. Squall regarded her features with immense scrutiny, the concern hidden away for the time being. Both of them knew Rinoa’s situation very well. They had both seen what had happened to Matron. They both assumed that Ultimecia had gone through the same sort of process, and that it had turned her to madness. Rinoa was a sorceress just like both of them were, and Squall had almost begged her after everything with Ultimecia had ended to let him know if anything really major was going wrong with her. Considering she seemed fine and was acting like herself, Squall’s heart didn’t see fit to sink into a large amount of worry, but he had absolutely no doubt in his mind that something lingering behind those dark eyes was bothering their owner. Squall, however, didn’t ask any more direct questions to her. Hopefully she’d have more to say, and judging by the shift in her expression again…his hopes seemed to be fulfilled.
He realized that what was eating at her might be their current location, too, when she spoke up. Though Squall was fairly content with their current situation and how it removed several pressures from off their shoulders, Rinoa didn’t necessarily feel the same way that he did. Rubbing his thumb across her wrist, he again nodded to her question. ”This part of the city’s better than Academy headquarters…” She could probably guess why, though he left the complement to her on the shelf for the time being in favor of pursuing whatever was eating at her at the risk of being a downer for a few seconds. ”So you’re not…having any trouble, are you? It’s just this world that’s wearied you?”

Of course, he had actually talked for some time now, at least to her, but she never could quite seem to take for granted him really telling her what was going on inside of his mind. Perhaps it was that reason and that reason that she was quite so interested in everything he had to say. While she listened quietly, she continued to stroke his arm and nod along. “That does seem like a big problem. The gunblade is one of the harder weapons to master, isn’t it? They should realize that they need to give it to people that can really dedicate the time, shouldn’t they? I thought the Academy had a fairly important military branch as well.” That was what she had heard anyway, now that she thought about it though, she couldn’t quite remember if the Academy did have a great military faction, or if they didn’t. She really needed to stop worrying about this whole black out thing and actually learn more about the world they had ended up on, and the people they had ended up here with.
Still, a moment later his furthering the explanation broke her down into giggles. The thought of a grown woman fueling her amusement, until she was really getting into her amusement. From Squall’s first look – one which also sent her into a deeper fit of giggles – she could tell that he didn’t think it was quite as funny as her. At least not until she explained why she thought it was as amusing as she currently did. And while she got her laughter under control, his saying that she nearly broke a heel caused her to smile all over again. “She’s lucky she was dealing with someone with a lot of patience.”
His next set of questions quickly caused the smile to slide off her face for a moment, and to cause her to withdraw her hand from stroking his arm. The giggles were replaced with worry lines on her forehead, her twinkling eyes with eyes of concern. In a moment that had passed though, in favor of a more peaceful, if forced, expression on her face. No sense making Squall worry about her. His hand wrapping around her wrist gave her some reassurance though, and she affectionately covered his hand with her own, giving him a loving squeeze to try and assure him that she was okay. His thumb brushing across her skin sent a bit of a shiver up her spine. In that moment she once more felt apprehension for what had happened to her recently, and his affectionate gesture – however small it was - made her want to throw herself in his arms, confess everything to him, and allow him to hold her and tell her it would all be okay.
But she didn’t even know if there was anything wrong herself, why worry or bother him with something that might be nothing? Yet he kept pushing about it. Part of her wanted him to just drop it and trust her, and yet another part of her felt a surge of affection and love for his being persistent about it. His direct question caused her to hesitate. Rinoa couldn’t really lie to him, not when he was looking at her like he was, but… Well…she was probably just being extremely paranoid at the moment. Thankfully he gave her an out, and she jumped on it, perhaps too quickly. “Yes! Oh…well, yes, it’s just the new world that’s been wearying me so badly.” Giving his hand another affectionate squeeze, she scooted her chair a bit closer to him and waited for a moment. “Squall? Do you think we could…do something fun soon?” Nibbling her lip a bit, Rinoa turned her rather large brown eyes to him in order to see his response.

ONE LAST THING: This one I was kind of happy with! Though it's rambly.
”The hardest,” Squall answered to the affirmative to Rinoa’s question. Though he’d never been a braggart about how he’d learned the gunblade, simple fact stated that it was an almost impossible task for most people; most didn’t want to even make the attempt because of how confusing the weapon and its tactics were. ”And that’s in our world, where we have gunblades. They have blades that are guns…they don’t know as much as they think they know. At least I had training manuals. Here, they have me.” And anyone who knew Squall well enough would know that he didn’t exactly do hands-on training with other people, especially when they could get hurt in some way. If Squall never had to show anyone the proper way to use a gunblade, it would be too soon. He didn’t even think he could explain it. His training manuals almost hadn’t made any sense, either. What did someone expect to learn about a weapon that was a technology from another world, with only one man on their entire planet who knew how to use it?
Assuming Seifer wasn’t on Gran Pulse. Squall lowered his gaze at the thought of the sorceress knight, not wanting to have to think about him but having a tough time ignoring the images that popped into his mind. Hopefully, Squall and Rinoa had left behind sorceresses and their nights in their world, too.
He was glad he’d inadvertently lightened the conversation, though, by telling about the woman’s temper tantrum. As Rinoa mentioned his patience, he had to fix her with a subtly incredulous expression. ”I wasn’t too full of patience by the time you sent the message…” Wasn’t that the way things had been with Rinoa from the start? Just when Squall found the end of his rope, she would come stepping in and keep him from slipping off the end. Then again, she’d also approach him in the middle of a dance and drag him onto a dance floor, too. Squall, still amused from the conversation, huffed quietly and gazed at Rinoa a few seconds out from under his shaggy bangs. He was amazed he could appreciate someone at times, until he remembered who it was he was appreciating.
And it was because he did appreciate her that he had to find out if anything was wrong with her. Squall didn’t count reading other human beings as one of his greatest talents, though he’d somewhat learned to understand Rinoa’s various expressions, actions, body language, and the like just because he’d been around her so much of late. So Squall tried to study her, noting that her expression fell but thinking that she seemed so unconcerned afterwards that it couldn’t be anything that serious. Ugh, Squall so wished that he had…more people skills. Maybe he could comprehend Rinoa’s reactions if he did. Continuing to lightly rub at her wrist, he waited for her to explain further, taking her own squeeze as a pretty good sign…unless she was trying to reassure herself with it. Squall couldn’t be sure.
If Rinoa was telling him that it was the world that was eating at her, Squall had to believe her. His own opinions of the world weren’t exactly the status quo for most people coming here, from what he’d heard. She probably missed the others already, and missed her own bed, and missed…normalcy. Squall had never exactly known normalcy, so for him to adjust to his new surroundings was simply commonplace. For Rinoa, a veritable princess in her own right, it would probably be more difficult. No, not probably, definitely. Squall rested his chin on his hand, trying to think of some way to help Rinoa get comfortable with her surroundings.
He wouldn’t need to think long. Watching her quietly as she scooted over and set those dark eyes on him, he wondered why she needed to bother asking him whether or not they could do anything fun. It wasn’t as if he could resist her looking like that…unfortunately for him, maybe. Squall had to wonder what she was meaning by fun…and what kind of fun could be found here. ”Whenever you want,” he said, somehow knowing he was going to regret the words in some small way…but the reward would be far greater. ”Like what?”
is gonna be fine
