His senses picked up every cue that was often associated with rain, from the varying splatter of the rain on the cement to the surprisingly fresh smell of pure water. Fresh rain was an anomaly in Edge, one that brought a leer to his deep ruby eyes as the boy tilted his head up towards the sudden rain. Thoughts ran through his head, most of them questioning as he took silent steps through the streets of the city. The cry and gasps nearby caught his ears, barely gathering the pale boy's attention as he spotted a group of orphans and a few adults pulling up their sleeves. He inwardly cringed, flinching unconsciously as he gripped uncomfortably onto his arm. The open sores were exactly the same, the same disease called geostigma. He was too caught up in his memories that he finally noticed a single drop down his pale cheek, startling the eleven year old as he frantically rubbed his red eyes.
What surprised him was the sheer echoes of joy and happiness that radiated from the same gathering of orphans and the few adults nearby, his eyes widening just a fraction of an inch as he stoically watched the miracle. In a humorous light all of them were soaking wet, but he could only focus his gaze on what was happening -- or rather what was disappearing. Every droplet of rain on the sores of the geostigma victims began to trigger a chain reaction of almost ethereal lights. Harmonic streams of verdant greens and iridescent whites seemed to sear through the sores, and as this happened the orphans and the adults grasped in surprise at the areas where their sores once was. It wasn't normal rain water, it was a cure for a disease that he hoped would've came earlier. They were happy as their ailments were effectively cured, but despite this he only felt a guttural drop in his stomach.
The mute stared down at the ground, using his gloved hands to grasp at his tattered jacket as he held it close to his body. He felt a physical warmth, a slight increase in temperature that was normally associated with his red jacket. He suddenly pressed his feet against the slippery ground, almost tripping as he desperately dashed away to one of the few places he found comfort in. Every memory associated with his tattered jacket continued to home in on him, the tightness from his hands pulling him further reminding him of the arms that used to hug him at night and whisper him lullabies. He continued to dash through the streets while passing through a chorus of cheers. Today was a day where geostigma was crushed, a day of recovery. But to him it felt like a huge mocking blow as he dashed through a small alley to come across a small clearing on the outskirts of Edge.
It was surprisingly well kept, with a simple sturdy leather strip hanging over the clearing that prevented the rain from ruining the area. The mute threw the red jacket onto the ground near a makeshift bed made out of old clothes and pillows, before slumping near two simple wooden stakes. It was marked with three simple words, one spelling out MOM and another DAD. Tears streamed down his face, the salty liquid falling against the corner of his mouth as he let out a silent cry. Edge was breaking out in joy over the miracle, their cheers still echoing out far enough to reach his ears as he clenched his fists on patches of grass.
Mom... dad... people are getting healthy again now. All you had to do was wait a few more years. The thought ran throughout his subconscious, but he only whimpered silently as he hugged his knees towards his chest.

ACCEPTED! I really like what you did with this XD Most people want to make the biggest and baddest character they can possibly find. I really did enjoy having a child, especially one that's mute. You pulled this off very nicely. You have [1/2] staff approvals you need! You need either one to accept, or two to deny. Good luck.

Shade "Aster" Clyne SORRY ABOUT THIS BUT THE LITTLE GUY CAN'T SPEAK, SO I'LL BE INTRODUCING HIM. NOBODY KNOWS HIS REAL NAME, SO YOU MIGHT AS WELL CALL HIM SHADE. HE WAS BORN AND COMES FROM THE WORLD OF GAIA WHERE HE WAS AND STILL IS AN ORPHAN WHO IS ELEVEN YEARS OLD. HE'S ONLY A YOUNGSTER, SO HE IS TECHNICALLY NEUTRAL IN THE SCARY WORLD OF PULSE. ------------------------------------------------- Weapon: Shade is surprisingly just a normal eleven year old boy, meaning that he isn't a dashing fighter who wields over sized swords. With the exception of a small pocketknife given to him as a keepsake by his father, he is essentially defenseless in any combat situation. The pocketknife isn't entirely magical or powerful in nature, though it does serve as a form of self-defense if he somehow gets himself into trouble. Abilities:- Stealthy - Do to his small stature Shade has developed a natural ability to get around unnoticed. He knows subconsciously how to step quietly without making a sound, allowing him to traverse through dangerous areas without being noticed. He isn't a trained assassin however, and anyone with an observant eye can still catch him sneaking around.
- Magic - Shade lacks the experience and training like other more seasoned spellcasters, though his history of stealing materia back in Gaia has allowed him to have a beginner's control when it comes to shaping and crafting magic. He knows how to create a basic fire spell for self defense, and for shelter purposes. With the exception of some minor black magic spells, he shares a stronger affinity with white magic that allowed the mute to survive as an orphan. As it is though he is not a spellslinger, nor can he fight off assailants with magic very well. What he does have though is an unbridled potential to grow as a magic-user since he soaks up any magical information that is given or thought to him.
Personality:Although Shade is only eleven years old, his personality is far more grim then the typical personality consisting of other kids near his age. He can be described as being quiet and cautious, the type of boy who distances himself from others. At some point in his life he once had a more childish persona, though the traumatic events that shaped his life forced Shade to mature too early. He carries a mindset that everyone is out to get him, making him quite frightened and mistrustful of strangers who take the chance to try to get to know him. Around strangers the boy has been known to avoid eye-contact in order to evade possible opportunities that would force him to interact with others. In a general sense he's quite a lonely boy who pushes others away, while bottling his thoughts and emotions inside him. Despite this lone-wolf nature he isn't a cold person, he is more of a emotionally fatigued boy seeking any form of affection or comfort. His cautious nature naturally tends to drives others away from him, since Shade has a fear that those he befriends will eventually disappear too quickly. It takes persistence to get through the mute's tough shell, but those that do manage to befriend Shade will find him to be a pleasant and endearing person. Being orphaned at a young age prevented him from having any sort of real attachment, meaning that he can be quite clingy to those he adores. This mostly stems from his innate loneliness and his desire for a family-figure, which can easily result in him idolizing others who genuinely care for him. One harsh fact is , because of this it's more difficult to discern what the boy is feeling emotionally due to his inability to communicate orally. This has further reduced his confidence to interact with strangers, since he fears the potential awkwardness that might ensue due to his disability. Irregardless though, the boy can be easily read like an open book. He's very expressive through his body language, ranging from pained smiles to simple arm grabs to show his happiness. Strangers usually find it easy to tell what emotion is swirling inside him just by glancing at his eyes, which easily depict his turmoils or joys. Others have found the mute to have a fondness over books, and often his expression visibly lightens when friends give him a book to read. In a gist he is a lonely boy that pushes away others, though in reality prefers the warmth of human interaction. Those that befriend him will find a more playful side to his personality, one where he is more prone to silent laughter and other childish antics. Trust in his opinion is given to those that prove their worth, it'll take time to get him to crack his barriers but once it does he's actually just a normal eleven year old. History:Before he was given the unintended nickname of Shade, he was once known as a boy called Aster Clyne. Born in the slums of Midgar to a mechanic and a grocery seller, Shade lived a relatively uneventful life for his first seven years. The small family of three lived in poor conditions inside a large pipe, though despite their economic plight they were a close-knit family. He was always thought as being an unusually polite boy who held impeccable manners. His apparent lack of desire to actually vocalize unnerved his parents, whom eventually took the boy to a clinic to check for any medical problems. They were devastated to find out that their child was born a mute, but despite this they never treated him differently. They learned to communicate with him, and even with this setback they all grew to love each other. Fortunately the family was able to avoid a potential death during their time away from Sector 7 in Midgar, and upon returning and hearing the news of their destroyed home they were forced to relocate to Sector 5. This forced the family to suffer from an economic depression, the crushing of Sector 7 resulting in the Clyne family losing every the small assets they had. Shade and his family were resilient to this challenge and manage to partially rebuild their economic stability. Here life continued normally for Shade and his parents, his mother continuing to work as a grocery seller while his father worked long shifts as a bread winner to the family. It wouldn't be until the coming of meteor that would start the chain reaction of events that destroyed his family. Shade didn't grow to hate the calamity known as meteor, but rather the ethereal green light that helped saved the planet from being wounded. The lifestream unintentionally carried the cells that would lead to geostigma, and it was through an accidental contact with the lifestream that his parents first contracted the fatal disease. His mother and father were among the first whom were infected, and despite their attempts to find an answer for their strange symptoms no doctor in the city of Edge couldn't help them. Shade saw the strong vitality of his parents slowly ebb away, and after a few months of their infection they were semi-permanently bed ridden. He was forced to manage his schooling, while simultaneously handling his mom's small grocery business as a way to provide a meager form of financial sustenance. His inability to speak and his attempt to sell groceries was met with disdain, and often he was bullied and hazed because of it. Nevertheless Shade continued to hope that his mother and father would get better, that the strange disease would dissipate eventually. By the time he was nine his father passed away first, devastating Shade and his mother. The loss stunned Shade, resulting in him being forced to bury his father in a makeshift grave due to their inability to afford a proper funeral service. It was only a month later when his mother finally gave way, dying soon after from geostigma. The combination of their deaths, and being forced to bury his own parents mentally scarred Shade who only began facing several problems later on. Aster refused to go to an orphanage, and like many other orphans he came to live as a street kid. He earned the alias of Shade for his inability to speak, a nickname that he began using intentionally to avoid any bittersweet memories his legal name reminded him of. He managed to make a meager living through theft and other dead-end jobs, at the same time he also faced a tough life on the streets. Shade was accidentally involved with a small gang of street kids, who constantly harassed him due to his disability. Ever since then he's been living on his own in a small clearing along the outskirts of Edge while following a strange system to help keep him going with his studies. |
