WORDS: 693 OH, BY THE WAY: HOPE THIS IS OK!! [/div] She was younger, the same age as her first day in the Oerba Orphanage. Vanille looked around, with her wide, green eyes. She was fiddling something in her hand, something she was keeping concealed from the staff. She refused to let it be pried from her hands. It was hers, after all. Wasn't she allowed to keep it hidden? Vanille shoved it in her pocket when she was ushered into the room. A few others were there, obviously orphaned from the same War that claimed her very own parents. She swallowed, and wet her dry lips. She was only young, and hadn't fully understood how the War had happened. She wish she did understand at that age. Still, her green eyes refused to be moved from the room. Nobody was really looking at her, and she was thankful for that. Well, except one. A girl, perhaps a few years older than herself was looking. Vanille binked.
She brought her hand up for a small wave to the dark-haired girl. And her face brightened when she got a wave back. Vanille blinked a couple of times, and watched as the girl came towards her. A hand was outstretched to her, and she looked at it. Then, seeing grown-ups doing it all the time, she shook it. "Hello! I'm Oerba Yun Fang!" Vanille smiled for the first time since she came to the Orphanage, and it was a very wide smile at that. She giggled lightly. "It's very nice to meet you, Fang." Vanille grinned. "My name is Oerba Dia Vanille!" She didn't know that the same girl she had met that day would turn out to be one of her closest friends. She didn't know they would go through so much together, from being branded l'Cie, to crystallising, to being reunited and Fang having no memories. Nor did vanille think that they would ever become Ragnarok. Ever...
Vanille stirred, and shifted slightly. Her breathing was deep, like she was sleeping. And, in a way, she was. The pillar hat held Cocoon... the one that held her and Fang was gone. Now, she was finally free from it. Still, she wold have to wake up first, and she was beginning to. She was conscious, but she kept her eyes closed. She didn't know she was out of Ragnarok, and was afraid to open her eyes. She clenched her fist, as her head began to pound lightly. Deciding she couldn't stay like that, she sat up very slowly, using her elbows to prop herself up. Vanille rubbed her eyes, and opened them. Immediately, she winced, and held her head. Maybe, it was because she had been sleeping for such a long time. Opened her eyes, and blinked her eyes to regain their focus. Then, her eyes widened. This.... certainly didn't look like Gran Pulse.
She rubbed her eyes again to make sure, and this time, she managed to make out that she was in some sort of room. But, just the look of it seemed really unfamiliar. Vanille was sure she wouldn't have shown up here after being Ragnarok for so-many years. Still, how long had she and Fang been in Ragnarok? Had it been a year, a decade... or more like a century. Last time she was crystallised, it had been well over five centuries before she came out the other side. Biting her lip, she put both of her feet against the floor. She shuffled slightly. Vanille just knew she would be disorientated and would most likely fall down. Still... no harm in trying. She stood up, and wobbled a lot, before she sat back down. "Ok... maybe wait a while..." She rubbed her temples and shook her head, only to wince. She sighed. Where was she?! And where were Fang and the others?!

ONE LAST THING: Muuuuuse.
And like a carefully crafted tower of playing cards, the Academy’s progress had now come crashing down.
”We need as many of our public assistance technicians on hand as possible. The eople are going to start panicking soon, if most haven’t already,” Hope said briskly, into the phone he held at his ear. ”The more we can gather into shelters for the time being, the better. If anyone without lodging in Academia roams the streets or tries to crowd their way onto one of the shuttles back to their homes, the situation could turn even more frantic. I don’t like having to round people up either, but it’s our only option to avoid what could be a societal breakdown.” Hope paused, a voice scratching quietly in his ear. He nodded his head as if the woman on the line could see him doing so. ”Right…I’ll call you back as soon as I can.” The phone disappeared into his shirt pocket only soon enough for an assistant to run up beside Hope with another issue. Handing over a paper that had previously been tucked under his arm, Hope only glanced her once as she ran off before glancing up and down the hallway for a few moments, realizing no one, for the first time in several hours, was paying him any mind, and taking a seat up against the wall, elbows propped on his knees. He ran both hands across his face, trying to rub the tension from out of his eyes. With how he and the Academy had been on the cusp of accomplishing their ultimate goal of correcting time and launching a planet only to have the stratagems of Caius Ballad pull the rug out from under them, he needed his first small respite from constant damage containment.
Hope remained there a few moments before painful memories of how close they’d been to recovering Lightning and of Serah’s death muddled around in his mind, compelling him to get up and do something that required his full engagement again. Idleness brought to him thoughts of what he could and could not have done to ensure that the situation would not have ended as it did, and Hope knew he didn’t need to bother himself with such ideas. Taking the second to straighten his shirt, Hope took in a breath and prepared to dive back into the swarm of problems he was facing. He only made it a couple of steps, though, before his phone buzzed to life again and he freed it from his pocket. ”The observation ward…”, Hope said to himself, under his breath, a little encouragement reaching his features. The observation ward was an eye of the storm at the moment, holding two individuals very important to Hope whom he’d hoped to be coming out of their crystal slumber. Almost dropping his phone in anxiousness, he finally succeeded in placing it against his ear. ”Director Estheim.” The voice that came into his ear was the gruff and unpleasant one belonging to the ward’s resident doctor, but to Hope it couldn’t have sounded sweeter. For the first time all day, his voice hit a chipper tone. ”I’m heading there right now.”
With the phone returned to its place, Hope took off at a brisk pace down the hallway, heading in the direction of the ward. As he’d anticipated, a few interruptions held him up, but for the most part he carried on towards his destination. According to the doctor, Vanille was starting to show signs of emerging from her crystalstasis, though Fang remained in her slumber. It was the first tidbit of good news Hope had come across all day, and Etro help him – if she’d still been alive – if he wasn’t going to act on such good news.
He arrived to the sight of the doctor standing outside of the doors, and Hope, without hesitation, mashed the button to open the door to Vanille’s room. The room buzzed and whirred a tiny bit to ensure the party inside was prepared for the entry, giving the doctor just enough time to tell Hope that he believed Vanille had already become conscious in the time it had taken him to walk over. Eagerly anticipating such a thing, Hope turned and eased into the door even before it fully opened.
”Vanille!”, he called out, forgetting to avoid startling the girl he expected to find inside. And find her he did, not only conscious, but sitting up in place. Hope, unprepared for the unfamiliar feeling of seeing one of the two Pulsian members of his family alive again, stood and stared at her with an expression that attempted to mix excitement and pure dumbfoundedness.
Thirteen years. How could it have been so long?

WORDS: 656 OH, BY THE WAY: THIS KINDA FAILS ;_; [/div] Vanille flexed her hands and rubbed sleep out of her eyes. She definitely felt rather… strange. That was one word to describe how she was feeling.. .Another word could be confused, maybe even scared. No, she wasn’t scared. More… perhaps anxious… maybe frustrated about things. But, Vanille was mainly confused. She didn’t know what to think, nor what to do. She had so many questions. Where was she, and how long had she been as Ragnarok? Was Fang ok? Did she make it out Ragnarok too? Where was Fang? Were the others still alive? So many questions, and she didn’t know what to start from. She had no-one that she thought she knew to ask. For all Vanille knew, it could have been 1284 years since she had been alive and kicking. Had last time… well, not that long, but still a while! She shuffled on the seat, a little nervous. She wanted, no… needed to go find out what was going on. She hated feeling confused… made her feel vulnerable.
Vanille almost jumped sky-high when a sudden voice called out her name. Yelping, she faced where the voice was coming from. She couldn’t recognize the voice, however, the man’s face did seem familiar in some way. She just... couldn’t put her finger on it. Blinking a few times, Vanille concentrated on his face. Yep! He did seem familiar. In a small way, the man reminded her of Hope, but, he was only fourteen… right? Mind you, she had no idea how long it had been. This could be him, and she didn’t know. ”Ummm…” She muttered, before looking up at him. ”Do I… know you from somewhere?” Tilting her head, she narrowed her eyes. ”You look really familiar.” Maybe, it was Hope?! Or, maybe somebody who knew him? It was just a guess, but it had a possibility. A better possibility than any others.
She bit her lip, before humming. ”Hope? Is that you?” Vanille asked cautiously, rubbing her eyes once again. She placed her feet against the floor again, and stood up. She wobbled slightly, before catching her balance. She grinned. ”Aw, that’s good!” She said to herself, before looking up at the Hope-look-a-like. ”You are, aren’t you?! Hope?!” [/div]

ONE LAST THING: Sorry for shortness, but I thought the doctor thing made sense.
Wow, Hope had absolutely terrified her with his exclamation. Staring down awkwardly towards his feet once he’d regained his composure, he tried to put a neutrally friendly expression on his face. He knew the shock was going to be something that Vanille would have to deal with, but making it any harder on her by rushing in on her while she was drowsy and assuming that she would instantly remember him was borderline cruelty. So Hope waited, letting her study him for a short time. He only decided to say something else once she finally vocalized that he looked familiar. Okay, good, so no total memory loss to speak of… ”You do know me,” Hope told her, trying to remove any sort of tone that marked him as “Director Hope” and instead trying to return to a more boyish way of speaking. It…didn’t work out quite as well as he had hoped it would, but Hope could see the wheels still turning in Vanille’s mind. Unless she did have some memory loss, she would be able to figure it out, he was sure of it. He didn’t turn to the doctor as he heard the other man enter, only keeping his anxious gaze on Vanille until she finally said his name.
His face lit up a little, though instead of saying anything, he stepped forward to make sure the effects of the crystalstasis didn’t cause her to collapse to the cold floor. She seemed to at least have some ability to steady herself, though, so Hope only stood there a few seconds before finally responding. ”It’s me, Vanille.” Hope knew he couldn’t get to the business of explaining things to her or telling her where everyone was or even doing much to greet her until the doctor took a look at her. Turning towards the other man, standing respectfully against the door, Hope stepped back a couple of feet to let the doctor replace him. ”The doctor needs to check you now that you’re awake, but it shouldn’t take too long. It’s…just a precaution. Since it wasn’t fal’Cie magic that woke you this time, we have to make sure that everything checks out and that you won’t fall into a semi-sleep state.” It was hard to have to say “even after thirteen years for me and four hundred for you, we need to wait a little longer before catching up,” but Hope drove himself to patience by stepping over to the monitors that were checking Vanille’s vitals and skimming over them with his eyes. Everything seemed to be providing normal readings…it gave him hope that the doctor wouldn’t have to take very long in checking everything else about her.

all I fear, means nothing IN YOU AND I THERES A NEW LAND ANGELS IN FLIGHT MY SANCTUARY MY SANCTUARY WHERE FEARS AND LIES MELT AWAY MUSIC AND TIME WHAT’S LEFT OF ME MY HEART’S A BATTLEFIELD YOU SHOW ME HOW TO SEE THAT NOTHING IS WHOLE AND NOTHING IS BROKEN- - - - - - - - - - - - - - TAG: HOPE! WORDS: 440 OH, BY THE WAY: STILL RATHER SHORT BUT I'M GETTING ALL MY MUSE BACK [/div] Vanille just had to think for a while. If Hope was this much older, then how many years had she been away? Well, she was glad for one reason. At least one of her friends was still alive. Perhaps the others were too. Eh, one could hope, after all. She nodded at Hope. ”Yeah, I do.” She said after a while. Vanille had to admit she was awfully happy about this. She was just glad she wasn’t alone after who knows how many years. It was relieving for one thing. But she couldn’t really get over the fact that Hope seemed so much older now. Not the fourteen year old boy she once knew. That would mean everyone would be different. Sazh, Lightning, Snow… it felt weird. Would she recognize her friends when she saw them? Or could she just pass them in the street without even realizing it? That was something she feared. She really didn’t want that to happen. Vanille liked to think that she would see the similarities. Heck, she did with Hope, didn’t she? Ok, it took her longer than she would’ve liked, but the fact was she did was good enough!
She nodded. ”Uh huh. I can see that now.” She said, giving off a wide grin. She looked at the door, and at the doctor. Ok, she was fine with that. Just precautions and all that, right? Still, Vanille was almost bursting to get back on her feet properly. She hoped this wobbly feeling would go soon. She didn’t particularly like it. Nope, not one bit. She didn’t really like feeling unstable on her feet, like she could go toppling any minute. It wasn’t really convenient. ”I just woke up, I don’t fancy sleeping anymore then I have done.” She said, smiling. Vanille sat back down on the bed as she was ‘examined’, so to speak. Just checked over. She really did hope that it wouldn’t take too long. She wanted to look around, and catch up with Hope. She wanted to know what had happened while she was ‘inactive’ and how everybody was doing. She was curious, and very, very excited to see everybody again. She tilted her head slightly when the doctor had finished. That… wasn’t a long time at all. If anything, it had only lasted a few moments. Did that mean she was ok? Given the green for go? She looked at Hope again. ”Can we go now? I want to look around!”
