The world was just expanding exponentially. She was moving from place to place so much it seemed lately. Just trying to find someone who knew what the hell was going on. Everyone seemed to not know what was going on. Here she was another place, to tell a story. Her foot steps lightly moved through the streets of Academia. This was like a whole other world. They had strange machina. Things whirring. Things were lively. She had only heard that this place was the main and only spot she would find some kind of information here.
So, here she went. She walked down the streets, glancing each way. Interesting things were truly eye opening. New kinds of shops. One piqued her interest. It actually got her spirit roiling. An invention shop of some sort. Magic could be introduced inside of such things, she could think of a whole world of things she could use.
She stepped inside, the familiar jingle of the bell over head made her blink with surprise. She stepped inside, looking curiously. There were such things that she had never seen before. Things were so much more advanced than in her world. Machina was hardly used, and if it was, it was for evil purposes. She stepped in a few more steps. "Hello? Anyone run this place?" Her voice floated on a breeze, and she left her fingers resting on her lips. These things were fabulous! Even though she had no idea what they were, or what the things did!
She ran her fingers over the counter as she found herself there, looking for someone inside. There was a back, and she just figured whoever was working was back there. Unless they just wanted people to just loot the place. Hm. She wondered if that was the case. She laughed to herself. This land was already full of surprises, she didn't know what would happen next.

Well today was going much better than planned!
Pushing the goggles back from his head, the blonde inspected his work.
Perfect!
“Like always!” Pushing the creeper out from under the machine he was working on, Maqui rolled off the moving cushion and got to his feet fully. That had been a long process of making the thing work perfectly. Or…at all really. There’d been plenty of moments where he hadn’t thought that the machine was going to work, but he’d finally managed to get it to do so when he’d ripped the hardwiring out and completely redid it. Turns out one of the wires had been completely messed up, which had caused the whole works to fry. Though it had been a setback and he’d had to do a lot more work, Maqui was just happy to have finally completed the blasted thing. That would mean that in a few days he could completely have it done and even get the fancies up then. Just in time for the producer to be here to look into buying the product! And Maqui was fairly confident that he would want it. He’d seemed extremely interested the few days before.
“Well Cookie! What’dya think?”, he asked in pride. All he got in return from the blue chocobo he talked to was a few ‘warks’ and a beak that nudged at his shoulder. Oh well…birds didn’t know a thing about inventing anyway, so who cared about the opinion of the blue bird anyway? “At least you could, you know, be supportive or something!” Bending down again, Maqui wiped his hand on his face to clear away a few beads of sweat – in the process managing to get grease in the blonde tuffs of his hair and his face. Not that he noticed. Maqui rarely noticed when it came to grease and such in his hair.
“The least you could do was make yourself useful and go get me a wrench.” On command, the big bird was off like a shot. Well at least the pile of feathers he’d rescued a few years ago had some redeeming qualities. Of course, Maqui did adore the chocobo that was his pet, at the rare times that he wasn’t eating his tools or something.
“Hey boss, someone’s in the sales area.” Lifting his head, the blonde nodded toward one of his researcher employees. “You got it! Thanks Deryl.”, he said cheerfully, before turning about face and walking from the huge garage space filled with labs and benches, toward the door that led to the smaller store area. That was the ‘showcase’ room, where he usually let the population see what they’d been working on. People usually went in there to make their sales as well.
Hesitating at the door and once again feeling that knot in his stomach at the thought of talking to strangers, Maqui slicked his hair back – only causing more grease to invade, and stepped through the doors. A girl, couldn’t be over twenty years old stood there. “Heya! Can I help you with something? A purchase?”

TAGGED MaquilWORDS 500+ STATUS Finished A bright smile curved on Yuna's face at the approaching merchant. She bowed her head slightly. "Hi." She started. "Oh, I was just so fascinated by all this Machina.." She said, her eyes were big and sparkly, one blue and one green. "What is all of this?" She felt silly for not knowing anything about this place. She ran her fingers down the display cases lightly, as if she had never seen such sights before. Because she honestly hadn't. She chuckled softly. "I must look a mess... your probably so used to things like this." She said with a small sigh. She didn't want to be wasting his time. "What kind of things do you have here?" She asked, fidgeting with the side of her blue skirt. She was wearing her gunner uniform, just incase things got tougher in the bigger cities.
The gaze she gave him was one of complete cluelessness. She really had no idea what these kinds of things did. The only machina she had ever really encountered, were ones that were trying to attack her. To see such things in such a smaller scale, was so strange for her. "Sorry.." She stammered. "I kind of got sucked into this place... I don't even know where I am." She said with a nervous chuckle. "I'm still trying to figure out where the heck I am. So I'm sorry if your not used to my kind of customer." She bit her bottom lip lightly in nervousness. She didn't want anyone to think she was strange, or do anything to her with her lack of knowledge on such things. Especially another Machina attack. She knew she could handle it. But still it was so strange. Being here...
"People look at me crazy for asking this, and don't answer me... But what.. land am I on?" She asked tilting her head. "I seriously doubt this is Spira... I've been all over there... And I've seen nothing like this before." She said with a motion with her arms. It was such a grandeur place. Something much more amazing that she'd ever seen. She'd seen her own types of wonders. But this was something entirely different. She couldn't get it out of her mind that Machina was not a good thing. But apparently here.... It did something else other than attack and kill people. Or were used for killing machines. She smiled a bit uneasily. She hoped this wasn't a store where small machina were bomb like structures. She surely hoped that wasn't the case. But he looked nice enough.. The blonde hair made her wince inwardly, but her smile still remained.

Still standing with a smile on his face, Maqui couldn’t help but cock his head to the side in wonder when she told him that she was admiring all the machina. “Machina? What’s machina?”, he asked in confusion. In his entire life, he’d never heard any of his inventions called machina before. Then again, quickly skittering his gaze over her, Maqui realized that she couldn’t be much more than the late teenage years. Maybe the younger generation had odd terms for things now-…well, not that he was very old. He supposed thirty wasn’t in the younger generation though, despite not feeling a day over twenty. Well anyway, Maqui blinked while he tried to keep up with everything she was saying. Eventually he just zeroed in on the one thing that he really knew well. “These are my inventions that are able to be purchased by the public.”, he tried to explain while his blue eyes looked at each and every one of his babies that surrounded the place.
The next moment she was talking about her own appearance. Maqui didn’t look at her again, not quite wanting to look at the skin that showed, but shrugged it off. “You look just fine.”, he finally stuttered out, before rubbing at the back of his head. He’d rather be back in the shop working on the projects than out here with some young woman. He should have told one of his workers to come out and talk to her and stayed back in the garage. That would have been a lot easier.
Until she let on that she wasn’t from here. It all made sense then. “Oh! You’re one of the portaled folks?” Maqui waved her toward him and toward a few chairs he had for customers. “Have you been up to the Academy at all?”, he pressed while he did so, blue eyes glancing back at her. He started laughing when she mentioned that he must not be used to her type of character. “I’ve dealt with plenty of people more weird than you.”, he managed to get out while he plopped down in a chair. Almost instantly he popped back up and reached toward his back pocket. Pulling out the wrench in his pocket that had dug into the back of his leg, he grinned sheepishly and tossed the wrench over toward the door to the shop.
Quirking a grin, Maqui answered her question without saying anything else. “We’re on a land called Gran Pulse. She’s rugged, but quite pretty. I assume in the chaos that happened you got pulled onto Pulse from your world, this uh…Spira?” Maqui had been working pretty close with Hope and the rest in this project, especially where the inventions and possibilities on fixing this came into play. As a successful inventor and mechanic, Maqui was a genius in his time when it came to making things.

TAGGED MaquilWORDS 453 STATUS Finished "Machina... You don't know what Machina is. But its all over." She motioned to a little robot looking toy. "That's machina." She also pointed to the strange looking things in the glass cases. "All of this seems to be Machina." She shook her head lightly. "It is forbidden in my land. Unless your an Al Bhed.. Which I am." She said with a slight smile, wondering what Rikku was up to. Was she in Spira still? She sighed inwardly. Her figers stroked over the glass cases lightly. "What do these things do?" She asked, curiously. "I might need to get something." She said and frowned a moment. So others had been sent here. Not just her. Just what was going on?
"Any reason why I ended up here on Gran Pulse to begin with?" A soft smile crept up on her lips slowly. She just had to figure out some purpose. Some reason why she would be here. "And how come only some people showed up, and not everyone.. Do you think we were sought after?" She had given up on the Yevonite teachers much earlier on. But the fact that things happened for a reason, wasn't one thing that she lost. "Do you think there is a reason I am here. Or do you think it was by some fluke accident.." She had to grasp on to something. She had lost Tidus. He wasn't here in this world. But even if he would, what could they have. The pain blossomed in her chest slowly. She had to stop thinking about that. There could very well be a viable reason she was here. Was she supposed to help this planet, like she helped her own. "I saved my world from Sin. Do you think I am supposed to be here to help? What.. do you know about the politics here? What is going on that all this chaos drug people into this world." She hoped he had an answer. At least a partial answer. Some kind of answer!!!
The Academy. "No, I haven't. I was going to go to that place. Probably what it is. Its the huge building. Just trying to get some answers... What do you think? Do you think its a good idea to go there and get some information from them?" She bit her lip lightly. She didn't want to get somehow captured. She then blinked as a question popped up into her head. "So, I take it I am not the first to come here... How many people from other worlds are there.." She asked softly. She really should find out what she was dealing with.

Had he been missing something for the last thirty years of his life? Machina…machina… Nope, he had nothing. Despite her telling him right here that it was everywhere, Maqui still felt utterly confused. “I’ve never heard of machina in my life. Is that some sort of machine? Because we’ve got plenty of machines around here?” The explanation he offered was simply him trying to wrap his brain around what she was telling him. When she gestured toward the machines and different things he had all displayed, Maqui got it. So he’d been right. Machina was referring to some sort of machines. Or just machines in general. Perhaps she was from a place where they were all called machina? “Oh yeah, I’ve got it now. Around here we just call them machines, not machina, but from what I gather, they’re the same thing anyway.” Maqui softened that with a friendly smile up on his features as well.
The moment she asked what some of them did, Maqui was all business. “They range from simple to not quite so much so. We mostly specialize in weapons, airships, hoovers, and robotic technology, though I have a few other things here as well.” Lifting up a glass case and lifting one out, Maqui smiled at it. “This one here can change the weather in your direct surroundings.”, he said with a grin, before handing it over toward her and nodding to the outside of the building. “Sunny now, but if you put in the right thing on the keypad there, it can change to rain, snow, storming, breezy, or the like. It’s only really meant for a small radius around you though, so it ranges up to about a half mile square.” It was a huge breakthrough, and Maqui had really designed it for Hope and the Academy, who had one that was larger scaled. Aside from that, Maqui normally sold them to farmers that wanted to assure that their crops were a success. “It’s pricy though, most things are when it comes to the newest breakthroughs.”, he mentioned.
Maqui much rathered they talk about his machines than any of the next bit that she started talking about, which he had to admit was quite rapidly fired off and he had to concentrate to follow her. “W-…well…”, he started while he glanced from her to the ground. “I’m not really one to know exactly about that, but I can speculate. The appearances of people seem to be random, almost like chaos is infecting the different worlds slowly. Well-…not slowly I guess, it happens suddenly, but it seems to go by phases. So first one world, and then it seeps into another, like it isn’t powerful enough to destroy them all at once, but once it does infect a world, it destroys it. I don’t know why not everyone from worlds was teleported here, but for all we know, they might have been. Gran Pulse is a huge planet really, so…they could be anywhere. Or…” Maqui didn’t like this part. He’d seen enough death in his time. “Or they could have died in the events.”
Gesturing for her to sit by him, Maqui furrowed his brows and tried to isolate one question at a time. “Yeah, that building is probably the place. The Academy recently has been simply trying to combat the same reason you were brought here. Chaos, which has infected the land really. They’ve also been closely dealing with the teleported folks, rehabilitating them and really explaining fully what’s going on here. My best advice to offer you really is to go there and ask for the director of the Acadmy. Hope Estheim. I’ve invented a lot of the gadgets around there, but as far as that goes, I’m not quite as highly informed as he is on what’s been happening around here.”

TAGGED: MaquilWORDS 422STATUS Finished "Machines." The word sounded foreign to her but she shrugged her shoulders lightly. "I suppose they have to be the same. Does sound similar doesn't it!" She lightly skipped around the shop, looking at the things, curiously. Then a familiar word struck a chord with her. "You guys have airships!?" She said surprised. She loved the airships she had been in. The gloriousness of them. She bounced back towards him with her eyes wide. "How does someone get something like that?" She asked curiously, and honestly. She was fascinated by machina.. er-machines. She'd have to get used to that. She wondered what else had changed. She sighed a bit a little more deflated now.
She watched him curiously when he talked about the strange machine. Her eyes slightly lit up again. "Kind of like magic, then. Sounds like. I can do magic too." She said with her eyes twinkling slightly. She adored her magical skills. Helping people. "Sounds like a large range. My magic can't reach that far, sounds like it's very powerful." She wasn't sure what kind of people would need something like this, but the ones who did probably loved things like that.
She stiffened suddenly, her body tensed and her fingers clutched into something fleshy, it was her hand. "D-Destroyed.." Her eyes widened slightly at the implications. "But.. everyone?" She murmured, shaking her head. Her people.. Her heart started to pound suddenly. "I'm sorry.. it's just a lot to handle." The sad part, is that he said more than just her world was being inundated by this chaos. The grief was staggering. Her throat felt dry. She nodded her head when he finished the rest of what he said. "Is it too late to save anything? Or is that something I should ask this, Hope Estheim?" She murmured softly. She already thought she knew the answer. More time wasted to figure out just what is going on. She'd have to get up and find out. Could she give up hope that no one was in this world.. She had seen some... But it was so strange.. She couldn't fathom losing everyone. Her heart clenched tightly. She didn't want to think the name she was thinking. No, she couldn't break apart. She had to get more information. "Thank you for letting me know all of this." She said, she smiled but it didn't reach her eyes. She left a soft sigh escape her lips.

Unaccustomed to women that weren’t Lebreau or Serah, Maqui found himself uncomfortable with a pretty young woman looking so interested in everything. The only other woman he found himself in this close of contact with that questioned him this way was a worker for the Academy – Alyssa Zaidelle. Just thinking about her made him want to blush as well. He couldn’t lie, that was one subject he either had to avoid or get some help on. “Y-...yes, we have airships. Most anyone can get a device if they have enough money. Some are more expensive than others of course. We build some of the latest designs here, as well as modify old ones. Or…you can get them at different manufacturing spots.”, he ended with a bit awkwardly.
He couldn’t help but be interested when she mentioned that she could use magic as well. “Are you a l’cie?” Perhaps that wasn’t the right question to be asking since she had made it clear that she was from a different world. “Uh…or do you have l’cie in this Spira?” He knew he probably wasn’t making any sense, but Maqui was probably just as confused as she was about this whole mess – alright maybe not, but still – and so he was trying to wrap his own mind around everything that chaos was doing – including the not aging thing.
Unfortunately for him, she didn’t take to his information that well. In retrospect he supposed he could have softened the news a little bit, but his ‘genius’ side had taken over and he’d gotten caught up in the moment of telling her what was happening. The look on her face wasn’t very reassuring that she wasn’t going to do something strange either. “Well…I mean, we can’t say for sure, but…well, you know. A lot of people have shown up from the same worlds, so there’s hope that people from your world could be around here as well.” That was the best amount of hope he could give to her, because aside from that he wasn’t sure what comfort to give. “I’m not exactly sure what Hope can all do to help you. I’ve been on this researching project with both him and his other staff to try and find a solution to the problem. A civil war between a faction called PSICOM is slowing the progress down.” Despite his better judgment, Maqui shifted around a bit on his feet. “Is there…is there anything else I could help with? Taking you to the Academy? Anything else?”

TAGGED: MaquilWORDS 586--STATUS Finished A small smile returned to Yuna's face. Her boisterous attitude was largely shrunken down to a smaller size. But her eyes still sparkled from the Machina laying around. "I want one.. I just don't know what I could do for something like that." She scratched the back of her head, pulling out a pouch of coins, she had been saving for quite some time. Luckily for her, she was in her traveling gear when she was sucked up to this place, and the coins were on her. But would her currency not work here? She dumped out the Gil. "Do you take Gil here? Or is there another type of currency..." She wasn't worried about spending her money, she knew most monsters dropped the currency. Which she never did quite understand, but she figured, it wasn't her place to truly understand everything that happened in the world... or worlds as she had so suddenly discovered.
"A wha?" She said with a blink of her heterochramatic eyes. "Nope, can't say we have those. I'm a Summoner. However, when I got here, I was only able to use one of them." She frowned lightly. How she missed Valefore. The pang of sadness rang through her. "Summoners are created to create peace among the lands... Which doesn't seem to be happening here at all." She said with a small sigh. She didn't know what it was about this place. It was like they never had peace. Like the people were so strained by everything that had happened to them, they couldn't really be happy-go-lucky. This was a darker place than she had ever seen.
"Well thats one thing I am good at, I suppose. Keeping the faith. However, I also feel like I should let go so I don't let myself down. Not everyone is going to make it.." She bit her lip to keep her emotions in check. She didn't want to be sad. She wanted to go back to being in awe of everything here. "Can you use magic?" She asked him curiously. Perhaps if she didn't have enough money, she could help him with something that he may need. It was at least something she could try and attempt at, at least. Then he said something about a Civil War. "I'm sorry... Psicom? Who are they now? Do they have something to do with the Chaos, or are they just impeding in the work of trying to reverse it.." She knew she was already getting her hopes up. And she knew it was going to crash down all around her.
She noticed the way he fidgeted and a flush crept on her cheeks. "Am I making you uncomfortable.." She stammered nervously, taking a few steps back, bumping into the counter with a small yelp. It came out of nowhere! "Well, do you know what exactly this... Chaos is? Human, matter, elemental..?" She truly had no clue when it came to all of this. She felt as if she was going in blind completely. All she wanted was some answers. Out of the corner of her eye something Blue peeked its head out. Her jaw dropped, and she knew he noticed it. That wasn't... There was no way!! Blue?! She wanted to run to it and squish it to her... but she decided she better not, she didn't want to get pecked to death either...

Maqui noticed this Yuna pulling her coin purse out and started to object before she asked about their currency. Reaching a hand up to scratch the back of his neck, Maqui nodded, “No, it’s gil here as well. At least that’s not different and you don’t have to worry about having gil that doesn’t work.”, he said cheerfully. Though he batted back and forth taking the money, ultimately he shrugged and waved off the money that she was offering him. “Must be pretty icky to be in your situation, so just go ahead and pick out something you like and you can have it without paying me.” Despite being the biggest inventing company – outside of the Academy of course – Maqui still acted as if he was nothing more than part of the staff rather than the owner of the grand company he had built in the last eight years, and was generous to a fault. After all, he’d come from humble beginnings.
A moment later Maqui could tell that she had obviously never heard of a l’cie. “L’cie are humans that have been ‘branded’”, along with that word Maqui lifted his hands to make quote motions with is fingers. “- by divine entities called fal’cie and given great physical and magical power, as well as a Focus, or a big task to fulfill.” Though Maqui hadn’t heard of too many l’cie in the most recent years, he could still remember the ‘old days’ when he’d figured out that Snow and a group of other people from Cocoon had been branded l’cie. That’s what had started the purge after all – a horrible time in the history of the human race. From what she did say however, it seemed they had people that seemed similar to what they had themselves. “Oh, well a summoner must be pretty close to a l’cie. Seems like it has about the same purpose too.”
Once more he tried to follow everything as she fired more comments and questions at him. Oh no…she wanted comfort. ’WhatdoIsay?’ Gulping slightly, Maqui tried to envision what Snow would say in these situations. “Uh…yeah, it’ll all be great!” Though it lacked the confidence that Snow might have, Maqui had thought he’d done a fairly good job at saying what Snow would have said – lacking a few ‘Serah’s’ in there. “Me? Magic? Well no, I mean…magic since the fall of Cocoon seems to be something more inside a person than anything else. I personally haven’t ever used magic, though I suppose I could if I tried.”
And how was he supposed to explain PSICOM? While he struggled to come up with the words, he hesitated a few moments and she seemed to catch onto his discomfort. Maqui felt himself blush deeper when she pointed that out, and stuttered out his “N-…No, I’m alright. Uh…PSICOM is short for Public Security and Intelligence Command. It’s a military force that has been helping relocate citizens after the fall of another planet hanging above Pulse hundreds of years ago. Since Chaos it’s kind of broken off from the Academy to try and come up with their own way of dealing with the situation. They’ve taken…violent measures though.”, he warned.
Pausing, Maqui took in a deep breath and was about to launch into what Chaos was when the woman seemed to get excited about something. Turning to follow her gaze, Maqui got a lopsided grin on his lips when he noticed the bird that had meandered into this customer part of the shop instead of staying in his giant play pen. “Cookie, how many times do I have to tell you tha-“ Maqui was cut off when the giant blue bird trotted to him and started to fluff his hair like normal. “Hey! Watch it. Oh come on Cookie. Lay off, would you?” Despite that, it was impossible for him to get annoyed with the bird.

She said with her eyebrows knit together. "I don't think I warrant charity..." It was true, she had never lost so much before. But to get something because her life was falling apart? She just didn't know if she felt right about that. "I really need some kind of machine I can get around on. I've seen smaller flying vehicles, but I doubt they call those airships.. Is there any way I can get something like that? I will even purchase it if its a kind of rare machina- er machine." She stammered lightly, staring at her feet nervously, her toe pointing at the ground.
"Well a Summoners purpose was to rid Sin every ten years. My father before me, he died defeating Sin. I decided when I was 17, to start my journey. And I am the first person to defeat Sin for good. Unless of course somehow this Chaos brings him back too. That would be an awful prospect." She said with a small bite of her lip. "We defeated Sin to help the people of our world. There's so much corruption around, sometimes the people needed to get some hope. I just wanted to bring them that." She smiled softly up at him, her one blue eye and one green eye sparkled. She couldn't get sad any longer. Her people were happy for quite a few years without Sin attacking and killing their loved ones. So this Chaos was going to try and do the same thing.
Yuna's eyes darkened a bit. "So Psicom is the enemy.. basically. Right? Or are any of those factions good?" She scrunched up her nose like a bunny. But before she could question him a bit more on Psicom. THE CUTEST CHOCOBO EVER JUST STROLLED UP! "You have a blue chocobo." She coo'ed at it instantly, having love to run around with her chocobo's back home. She even knew the noises they made, so when started making affectionate noises towards the big bird that he called Cookie. Perfect name! "So beautiful." She reached out to stroke Cookie's feathers. Her body thrummed with excitement, trying to play with the mighty Chocobo. "We have them in my land too." She said with a brilliant looking smile, she was quite thrilled and excited at the same time.
