Long, long ago, well before the time of written history or the erection of the first recondite and arcane Blood societies, the Jewels were bestowed upon a rare few individuals, bequeathing the power of Craft to that sparse handful and simultaneously laying a sacred charge upon them in return for this precious gift. This is how the Blood were born, this is how there came to be Queens to rule the land, to protect it and sing to it, how there came to be Healers, Priestesses, and Black Widows, to harness the myriad talents that could arise from the Abyss, how there came to be Warlords, Princes, and Warlord Princes, to guard and protect the ruling females and their Courts from harm.
Since then, Blood Law and Protocol has governed the intricate social dances of the Blood, mandating an elaborate structure of decorum that strikes a delicate balance between the depth of power one can harness and the caste to which they belong. These archaic edicts and maxims have come to be known as the Old Ways and they now face the danger of extinction as history flows ever onward, and the Blood begin to forget their ancient charge, their sacred responsibilities, and the integral system by which their very lives – and, often times, deaths – are ordered.
