BURNING DOWN THE HOUSE Lightning wandered the streets of Academia. She was once again scowling at her outfit. Being out of a uniform was uncomfortable for her. Her boots sounded loudly against the pavement as she walked. She wasn't particularly familiar with Academia. However when she seen a large smoke stack coming over the buildings, she knew it wasn't meant to be there. Guardian Corps training kicked in instantly. She broke out into a run toward the smoke. It was a residential building. She cursed under her breath. The screams of terror barely registered. She couldn't do this if she let it register on an emotional level. She was trained to go into these places and do this but if she let herself care about them she would break down.
People had already began to crowd around the perimeter of the building. "I need you all to stand back!" |
She yelled through the crowd. She pushed through the people to be able to assess the damage of the building a little better. Miraculously most of the people who had began crowding around listened to her and moved. Those who didn't she moved back forcefully. A little boy shrieked as she picked him up just before a piece of wood nearly landed him. Apartment building. A large tall apartment building. She lifted her wrist to call for military backup. Once that was taken care of she looked at the building again. From the commotion she knew there were still people inside. She steeled herself and kicked open the door. She knew her backup would take a while to show up. [/div] tag: Snow notes: phone replies o.o results may vary outfit: Here Some things sure can

here i go again, chasing the wind i don't know how it'll end TAG: Sis! Words: 876
ONE LAST THING: AND THE HERO...jumps through a door. And to think, it had been a perfectly peaceful kind of day until Snow noticed a building a block away was on fire.
Hero instincts immediately kicking in once he’d spotted the flames rising, Snow had torn through an alley until he came to the scene. And boy, was it bad. The building had to be…some kind of apartments, he thought, and if they were apartments, there had been people inside, and probably still were people inside of that huge wall of flames that revealed itself in front of him. What was worse? Half of the people on the block were standing around looking distressed, just watching all this happen like it was their daily entertainment or something. Why did they all remind him of those people in Palumpolum while the l’Cie crisis had been going on?
Whatever these people thought they were doing by fearfully staring at the building, he wasn’t going to waste time giving them a lecture about how they weren’t helping and needed to get out of the way. He just needed to figure out what was going on.
His eyes searched anxiously for someone in a fire suit or Academy uniform. ”Hey, hey!,” he called towards one of the few firefighters already on the scene, trying to shuffle together their little plan for helping the situation, grabbing the man’s shoulder to get him to stop for a second and answer him. They were taking too damn long getting their help on the scene, didn’t they know that!? ”Are there people still in there!?” The man turned to regard Snow, confused by the latter’s size for a few seconds before yelling out a response. ”Even if there is, there’s not a thing we can do for them! The place is coming down before long if we don’t try to take the fire down first, and that means it comes down on our men! We’re waiting on our ship!”
Every single inch of Snow wanted to rip into yelling about how the man wasn’t doing his job, but he couldn’t spare the time. He looked over towards the building again, gritting his teeth. He started to turn and dart off towards it, only for the man to grab him by the arm in an attempt to stop him. ”Are you out of your mind!? You’ll be dead yourself if you go in there, if not from the fire than from the smoke!” Snow shook free from him, casting a disdainful expression on the man. ”That’s a chance a hero’s gotta take! You should try it sometime!”
Snow still had a crowd to maneuver, though, before he could get inside and get those people still inside out of there. He came up at the rear of them and started picking his way through. ”All of you guys need to get back!”, he yelled over the top of them, drawing the attention of most nearby. ”Every one of you will be in danger if that building falls! Back up!” Much to his relief, a good number of them did start quickly trailing back, both opening his path to the front of the building and avoiding the risk of them getting hit by debris.
And speaking of debris…Snow heard something crack, and spotted a chunk of flaming wood making a quick descent towards the portion of the crowd too far down from Snow for him to be able to get to it in time. He skirted to a stop in place nonetheless. ”Look out!”, he called to that portion of the crowd, just in time to spot a pink head of hair in among them that was moving too fast to be anyone else but whom his mind first informed him that the hair belonged to. She got a kid out of the way. Pfft, and she acted like she was nothing like Snow at all. That was heroism!
”Lightning!”, he called, but there was no way on Pulse she was going to be able to hear him over the sounds of the fire, the crowd, and the sirens. She was closer to the building than he was – basically at the door – so he took off in her direction, again calling her name a couple of times before he realized she wasn’t remotely concerned about hearing him. Nope, she was leading the way inside, and Snow couldn’t decide if he was going to be happy to have her help in there or if he was terrified for her. Tough as she was, he still worried for her like any of the rest. ”Light, wait!” Nope, she didn’t hear that one either. She was already inside.
It took Snow only a few seconds after the pinkette had entered to dive in through the doorway himself, arms up to defend himself against the fire. He stopped inside the doorway, bringing a hand up to shield him against the searing heat that met him immediately. The whole bottom floor – the lobby, he figured – as aflame in some form or another, the sprinklers having tried their best to fight off the coming flames but having been burned to a crisp themselves. Man, was this a mess. ”Lightning!? Anyone!?”, he called, trying to get his bearings before he tore off again.

BURNING DOWN THE HOUSE As Lightning entered the building smoke billowed at her. She waited for the large amount of smoke that had built up behind the door to escape before even attempting to take a breath. The smoke burned her lungs, but she made sure to crouch lowly. She coughed at the first feelings of smoke hitting her lungs, the burning was painful but not debilitating. The smoke was dark, and she could barely see into the house. The movie industry's biggest lie was that house fires burned bright. Sweat instantly began forming over her skin as she moved.
She froze at the sound of movement behind her. It sounded like a person, rather than debris falling out and blocking the exit. She listened hard, attempting to hear over the loud crackling of the fire. Her name was spoken, in a voice she was not surprised to hear here. She rolled her eyes. Typical Snow. She glanced around the layout, moving through the room. She wasn't expecting anyone to be on this floor. There were enough fire escapes on the first floor of a building like this that they'd need to be a real moron to get trapped. She turned to look at the man who entered behind her.
"Snow." She coughed out remaining low, attempting to stay below the accumulation of smoke. She glared at him. "Stay low and don't breathe too much."
|
She warned him. She knew better than to try to get him to leave. He was a hero to a fault. As she did she saw movement. Apparently she spoke too soon. She moved quickly through the flames, careful not to near anything that might burn her. A small girl was cowering under what looked like the security desk. She glanced back at the door which seemed like miles in the burning building. She bent over and picked the girl up and moved to the closest window. They were only on the first floor and this was safer than carrying someone through here. She didn't want to end up hurting her if she ended up falling. Lightning tried throwing the window open, only to find it jammed. Typical. She drew her Blazefire Saber, and bashed the window in with it's hilt. Determine it was safe enough, she leaned out, and set the girl on the ground as gently as she could manage. It was only a small difference in height between what she could reach and the ground. She ignored the slight pain that came with leaning over broken shards of glass. It didn't cut so far as she could tell, at the very least she wasn't bleeding. With that done she made her way back toward Snow. "Most of the people still in here are going to be on the upper levels." She yelled, making her way towards the staircase. She could only hope that it was still somewhat safely maneuverable. Or else she and Snow were likely to end up charcoal. The place seemed so thoroughly engulfed in flames it had to have been going for some time. At least, either that or Arson. She grimaced at the thought. If this was some sort of PSICOM attack it was low. A sick terrorist maneuver at best. What good would blowing the top off a residential building do? Nothing except increase the unease that people had towards the Academy. "If we're doing this, If I'm going to let you help me on this you can't react emotionally." She growled at him, knowing it was like asking him to cut off his own arm. His emotional responses were a part of him, and not something that he could ignore. "I need you to think because one wrong move could get yourself killed, a single rash action could probably take the building down with you." She instructed. She didn't like thinking about it. How dangerous even being in here was. She didn't know how stable the building was and she definitely didn't know how many people were still in here. Too many variables existed. here i go again, chasing the wind i don't know how it'll end TAG: Sis! Words: 819
ONE LAST THING: This is going to go well. ”That you, Light!?”, Snow felt compelled to ask of the form he could see moving up ahead of him, even if there was no question as to who it was judging by the way she was trudging through the fire like it was second nature. Squinting against the heat and letting out a gruff sound of general displeasure, he kept his face shielded as he stepped forward to link up with her, his eyes already searching over her head to the rest of the room to figure out if there were any people who needed helping. The first of what was probably going to be several coughs escaped from his lungs once he’d decided that there was no one obvious enough for him to see right now.
At her words, the instructions rolled right out of Snow’s ears before, a few seconds later, they dawned on him and crouched, palms propped on his knees. As usual, though, he only half-followed her advice and spoke out as if he had all the breath in the world to spare. ”We should do this fast but thorough, you know? The faster we can check all the floors, the faster we can get people outta here before the fire gets worse.” Just as he got the words out of his mouth, he was left to watch Lightning shoot off to another part of the building, where Snow saw the kid she was gunning for and decided it’d be a good idea for him to be checking the rest of the ground floor for other people who might have been behind a wall or hidden somewhere.
”Hey!”, he yelled through the floor with his hands cupped around his mouth, forgetting to crouch. ”Is there anyone in here!? Anyone on the bottom floor!?” Snow stopped and inched forward, angling his ear when he thought he heard a weak screech come back in return. Though figuring out where it was coming from would prove impossible, he picked the next room, angled his way past a flaming set of furniture, and yelled again, his words preceded by a loud cough. ”You in here!?” The voice came again, stronger this time, and Snow was pretty damn sure it was coming from a little door to the side of him that was partially licked with flames. The lock was also melted, by the look of it.
Snow gathered himself, and stepped back. ”Don’t stand behind the door! I’m getting’ you out!”, he yelled, before stepping forward and driving his boot onto the hinge side of the door. It gave way with no trouble, rocketing to the side before it straightened momentarily, then collapsed. Snow found the tear and soot-smeared face of a teenaged girl within, with her basically wedged into the corner. ”Hey! It’s gonna be alright! You can come on out, too. You got a clear path to the door.” She didn’t even so much as move when Snow gestured his hand to her. His face twisting into anxiousness, he stepped forward to try and coax her out. ”Come on…the fire’s not gonna bother you…this floor’s pretty safe.”
Only once he got a hand onto her shoulder did she start moving and sobbing at the same time, convincing him it was best to slowly lead her back towards the doorway. Snow was pretty dang glad nothing horrible happened before he got her there to ease her out onto the street. ”Alright, now just run out there to the crowd and get some help if you need it!”, he told her, before she frantically rushed out to a chorus of loud cries.
Snow turned away from watching her just in time to see Light coming back from the help she was providing to the kid. Upon seeing her and letting out a couple of heavier coughs than before, he remembered to crouch down again upon seeing her. ”Yeah, this floor’s empty,” he reported back to her, again bringing his hand up to shield his gaze on the room.
He opened his mouth to tear into some sort of short explanation of how he was going to head on upstairs as fast as he could and start checking for more people and that he’d handle the top floor himself, but Light’s words cut him off. In spite of the situation, he grinned widely at his future sister-in-law as she spoke, giving her a thumb up once she was done. ”You forget, Light. This is my career! Don’t worry, I’ll be as much help as you need.”
He threw the same thumb at the staircase. ”I’ll lead the way up, since I could handle a fall better.” With that thought in mind, he swung around and made a short jog over to the staircase, testing the first couple of them before speeding up a little more on his way up, ready to save the rest of the people in this place.
