maybe this life is overrated but i won't let the world TAG: Yuffie! Words: 658
ONE LAST THING: I'm okay with this starter.
”Ugh.”
Naghi’s grunt of displeasure came out filtered and mechanical-sounding so that he didn’t even sound like himself anymore. A good thing, really, to have his voice masked, but still… ”The last person to wear this must have skipped brushing their teeth for a few weeks.” Even as Naghi complained, though, he kept his hand hovering over the side of the bulky helmet he wore, messing about with the display that continually shifted a shade of red in front of his eyes. Contrary to Naghi’s belief thus far, as told to him by the Academy, that PSICOM was a bunch of primitive grunts who spent most of their times smashing things, the PSICOM helmet he wore proved more advanced than anything he’d ever known in his own world in relation to a combat suit. PSICOM wasn’t big on comfort with these things, but for functionality, Naghi would have been impressed if not for the smell. He eventually pulled the helmet off and glared at it distastefully.
Why would Naghi want to be wearing a PSICOM suit? For a bit of an infiltration mission, as it was. As it would turn out, Naghi was both the Peristylium’s best option and now the Academy’s for these sort of ninja-related missions. Well…one of two best options. Naghi had a partner this time, and while he typically did prefer to work alone, he admitted he wouldn’t make a very good PSICOM fugitive hunter if he didn’t have someone coming along to play the fugitive. Her name actually sounded like she’d come from Rubrum herself, but apparently she was from somewhere else entirely. Naghi’s eyes settled on her again as they rode along in the dropship that would take them to the place where they could get their little infiltration job going. Aside from the name, she even looked to be the age of one of the Peristylium students. Funny to think she was apparently from somewhere else entirely, and probably no older than Naghi himself, and a ninja, and apparently good enough of a ninja that the Academy thought she could handle a kind of stressful-sounding mission on this weird, man-made planet someone had thought to call “Bhunivelze” of all things. Not the name Naghi would have picked…
The idea of their mission was for Naghi to appear as a PSICOM soldier who’d captured her as a member of the Academy, basically just so the two of them could get inside one of the PSICOM bases without suspicion. Naghi would then get the codes to break the girl – Yuffie – free from her cage so she could uphold her end of the infiltration and he could get busy with downloading as many PSICOM codes as possible until there was a threat that he could be caught. Aside from the Academy wanting the codes to know what PSICOM was up to, they’d need the codes simply to escape the base if one or both of them got caught. Of course, the idea had primarily been inspired by Naghi’s ideas, but he could give the Academy a little credit. For a bunch of pencil-in-the-ear scientists, they could be a little clever when they wished to be. Naghi wasn’t sure how clever Yuffie was, but aside from seeming very...bouncy for a thief, she hadn’t said anything that had made Naghi apply a palm to his own face.
He supposed he needed to say something to her. Propping himself in one of the row of seats against the wall that soldiers usually used before being dropped into battle, Naghi kicked his feet up – uncomfortably due to the PSICOM armor – and went back to fidgeting with the helmet as he addressed the girl. ”Paint me curious,” Naghi began, still a little bothered by the fact that he didn’t know everything that was everything in Gran Pulse as he had in Oriense, ”and don’t take this as an insult, but what convinced the Academy that you’re a good ninja?”

WORDS: 641 OH, BY THE WAY: HOPE THIS IS OK! [/div] Yuffie shuffled, feeling rather a bit uncomfortable. Just this whole mission seemed to be uncomfortable. Well, at least from her point of view. Looking at her ‘partner’ through the corner of her eye, she smirked slightly. So, this was one of the Academy’s other ninjas, eh? She hummed, and looked around. Still, maybe they could prove to be a useful team. However, Yuffie knew that, even though he was with the Academy, she still knew she had to be cautious around him. She couldn’t be sure of his intentions with the Academy yet. Yuffie wrinkled her nose at his comment. ”Nice.” She muttered, sarcastically. She hugged her knees to her chest and sighed. She was bored, and she fiddled with the sleeve of her unzipped sweatshirt. The mission, overall, seemed really simple. But Yuffie knew that if the slightest thing went wrong... Ah... Lets just say it wouldn't end well.
She knew that both Naghi and herself needed to keep a level-head when doing this. That was rather vital. That, and making sure they got in and out, unseen. Their cover seemed next to flawless, at least from her view. From what Yuffie knew, PSICOM were just mindless, trigger-happy idiots, who thought that they knew everything, and wanted everything their way. Well, that was just Yuffie's view, anyway. Still, she hoped they were stupid enough to not realise that they were only playing pretend. She scoffed to herself. Yuffie Kisaragi, the Single White Rose of Wutai and the Great Ninja, playing fugitive. Well, this had never been in the job description. Mind you, maybe she should start reading the small print.
She hoped Naghi knew what he was doing. If he didn't know how to get the codes to let her out, she would have to resort to using her back-up plan.... Kicking the damn cage! Yuffie could be strong when she tried hard enough. But, she had brought her ninja stars and knives, along with a few medium sized Shuriken. Also some of her beloved materia. And, of course, her Conformer! That always proved useful at times. Still, if they searched her... Well... She would be royally screwed. That's when Yuffie hoped Naghi could get the codes to where they hold the weapons. She stretched her arms and legs out in front of her, feeling a little cramped in space. She looked at Naghi. "Curiosity killed the cat, ya know." She offered, grinning with a mischievous air around her. She shrugged, her grin widening. "Well, it's kinda complicated. A couple of things, I guess. Mainly with my friends in AVALANCHE and the WRO. Co-head Espionage Unit, all that."
Yuffie crossed her legs, and leant back on her hands. She groaned, and grabbed the back of her kunai knives with her hand and yanked it out. If she was bred, she had to do something to occupy her time. Folding it up, and lashed it out and wrapped it around her forehead, tying it around the back of her head. She sighed. "What about you, eh?" She rested her forehead in her palm, making her black hair stick up. Yuffie huffed. "This is taking ages." She muttered. [/div]

ONE LAST THING: I was happy with this too!
Naghi provided the other ninja with the slightest of understanding nods when she mentioned her past experience with this sort of work. Needless to say, many of her terms made little to no sense to him, but he gathered that Yuffie had once been a part of some sort of espionage unit elsewhere. Not here, as he’d guessed to be the case. ”And how’d you get involved with it?”, Naghi added, not looking at her as he worked further on the helmet to make sure it didn’t have any issues going on with it, like a missing call number. ”The only reason I became involved with espionage is because I was trained for it at a school. You can’t be much older than me….” He looked up at her long enough to prove he was judging her age on appearance, before averting his eyes again. ”…so I assume you didn’t get into this sort of thing as a career choice without something leading you in the right direction.” Naghi might have added something about a family situation that could have led to her paving her own path as he had done, but he wasn’t all that interested in making assumptions about a girl whose background he didn’t have a single chance to know outside of her own word of mouth. If Yuffie explained, she explained. This wasn’t Rubrum. Naghi couldn’t go digging up past information here.
His eyes again found the other ninja long enough to see her impatience getting the best of her, leading him to peer up over his head at a computer screen on the wall. ”ETA’s in about three minutes. Getting ready to get out’s a good idea,” Naghi reported, himself moving to get off of his comfortable position and back to his feet. They were in a PSICOM ship to further reinforce the notion that the façade of capture was truly to be believed, so they’d be dropping in almost exactly where they needed to be. They’d have to switch to their acting faces pretty quickly. Grabbing at a pair of simple cuffs from off of a workbench at the rear, Naghi listened to the question about his path to being a ninja being returned to him. ”Like I said – I had training for it from a school in my world,”, he told her, simply, before approaching where she was sitting with the cuffs held before him. ”Turn around if you want help hooking these on.”
As the ship made a slow rumble to indicate it was coming around to land, Naghi continued, figuring it wouldn’t hurt to explain a little more about the school thing as they finished up. ”Our world couldn’t avoid war, meaning the nation I was born in couldn’t afford to ignore that they needed more than just regular soldiers to deal with other countries. Someone decided a school for a bunch of uniquely-trained students would be the best bet for helping us keep up with the other nations.” Naghi was one of the first to ever be recruited into the Suzaku Peristylium, in fact, and to the day he’d been brought to Gran Pulse was still one of the oldest students around. People looked up to him there for his efforts as the head student member of the operations room that served as mission coordination and information central for all missions being performed by all members of the school. His experiences there and proof to the Academy that he knew his way around all their equipment had surely been what brought them to the point of sending him on this mission. The big wigs wouldn’t be disappointed once this day was over.

WORDS: 599 OH, BY THE WAY: WHY ALL MY POSTS RECENTLY SO SHORT??? ;_; [/div] Yuffie sighed and shrugged. To be honest, she either couldn't remember, or didn't know to begin with. Ok, now that was going to bug her. Why had she decided to become a ninja, anyway? "I can't... really remember?" She offered, before clicking her tongue. Well... she must of written it down somehwere. Probably back in her room... in Wutai... on a different world. She huffed, yes... that was just her luck, wasn't it? Sighing, she looked at Naghi. So, this guy went to school, did he? When had she last been to school? "I haven't been to school in a while... I just... stopped going, I guess." She shrugged. "I'm 18." Yuffie stratched the back of her neck, and blinked a few times. Well, she had to admit it... she didn't miss school.
Yuffie nodded. 3 minutes. Ok, she could deal with that. She leant forward onto her tiptoes, and then stood up completely. Brushing down her shorts, she then stuffed her cold hands into her hoodie. Yuffie kicked the ground aimlessly and sighed again. She didn't overly fancy having her hands trapped against cold metal, cutting into her skin. Nope, she did not fancy that at all. Turning her back to the taller boy, she offered her wrists. As much as Yuffie loathed being restrained, it was all for the good of the mission. She just hoped PSICOM had some materia she could compensate herself with. If not... well then... severe and drastic measures would be taken.
Yuffie faced Naghi once more, and visibly deflated at the word 'war.' Just the thought of war seemed to remind her of her parents. She hadn't actually seen Godo since she arrived here. And her mother was dead, so... She missed her mother... but now wasn't time to dwell on the past. No matter how much she wanted to, Yuffie just...couldn't. But, a special school for the uniquely-talented...? That... surprisingly sounded almost a bit like SOLDIER. Special warriors... "Your school... sounds a lot like something we have in my world. Its called SOLDIER. But, I guess its different, since you... change when you get there. Get pumped full of stuff called 'mako'." She shrugged, and flexed her hands. "But then, the TURKs are specially-talented fighters, too..." She shrugged again, and blew a piece of hair out of her eyes. It didn't really matter that much.
Yuffie suddenly gave a smile. "Let's just hope PSICOM don't expect what an ass-whooping their about to receive!" [/div]

ONE LAST THING: Let the action begin!
Naghi flicked his eyebrows up incredulously. Why someone wouldn’t remember why they’d made the career choice to become a ninja, Naghi would be unable to decipher. He supposed it wasn’t his place to question it, though, so only turned back to his own business as she explained she was no longer in school – not unbelievable – and that she was eighteen years old – again, not unbelievable and, in fact, thereabouts where Naghi would have guessed her age. Unlike many on Gran Pulse, who seemed flabbergasted at the idea of a bunch of teenagers capable of working in espionage, Naghi thought that fifteen-year-olds running around performing missions was commonplace. For an eighteen-year-old dropout ninja to be running around wasn’t anything special.
Having moved on to get them ready for the rest of their tricky little mission, Naghi stepped up with the cuffs and started to snap them on with some amount of care and skill. The work took nothing more than ten seconds, and once he was done Naghi pulled on them lightly a couple of times to make sure they wouldn’t unrealistically slip off, even if they’d grabbed a pair that was meant to be one size too big to avoid Yuffie having any complications with getting them off if necessary to defend herself prematurely. ”Don’t accidentally slip out of them if you decide to make a show of rebellion,” he reminded her as he stepped away and stared at them for a few seconds, ”They look pretty convincing as long as no one starts pressing their eyes to them…and if they get that close, I’m sure kicking them will be the first thing you do.” And Naghi would sure enjoy seeing a “prisoner” dropping one of PSICOM’s tinheads with a boot to the face.
Listening as Yuffie explained that she had some sort of program similar to the Peristylium at her school, Naghi only reacted distastefully at the idea that they were pumped full of some kind of substance that he assumed to be performance-enhancing. ”That’s not shady business at all,” Naghi replied sarcastically, next sliding the helmet back over his head and again grunting at the smell. Again, Yuffie seemed to be lapsing into her own personal thoughts about subjects he wouldn’t be able to understand at the moment, so Naghi only let her continue on with her talk of something called “turks.” Funny, he thought that the word turks had something to do with food…
But now was not the time to think about food. It was focus that he needed in order to play his part of a semi-capable PSICOM soldier arriving to deliver an Academy saboteur that he’d personally captured. ”Let’s hope we don’t have to whoop any ass directly,” Naghi commented in his typical dampening way, before hoisting the gun at his side and moving over towards the door, taking Yuffie by the elbow to prepare himself for the convincing act of dragging her alongside him. With a lurch, the ship touched down, and Naghi stared forward silently as the door swung open to release them. Naghi stepped out with his prisoner in tow, immediately turning and starting to march his way towards the part of the dock where his “superiors” would meet him. He’d memorized the area to an almost comical extent, so he had no trouble in heading in the right direction. Once nearing, he gave Yuffie a slight extra yank, just for effect. After all, half of a PSICOM squad was now staring at them both.

WORDS: 407 OH, BY THE WAY: SHORT, AGAIN, BUT I WAS RATHER PRESSED FOR TIME. I'LL GET BETTER AT CHRISTMAS XD [/div] Yuffie had to admit, those handcuffs were definitely digging into her skin, even if they were on a bit loose. Ok, so she could slip her hands through if she tried, but, as they were hanging on the beginning of her hand loosely, they cut ever-so slightly. She shook her head, only to smirk. ”They won’t fall off, but trust me, you’ll know if I decide to rebel.” Flexing her wrists again, she hummed a little. Well, it seemed Naghi knew her antics already. Was she really becoming that predictable? That… was not good. Nope! Yuffie would have to change that. Smirking, she rolled her shoulders back. She had dealt with harder missions, Bahamut and Nero being prime examples. This could be a piece of cake.
She frowned and sighed. ”Aw! But, where is the fun in that?” Yuffie pouted lightly, before feeling a hand on her elbow. Ok, now she knew she was going to have to get in character. However, couldn’t the acting be a little bit gentler? It could be realistic, but the extra yank… really? Looking down, she ‘scowled’ at Naghi and aimed a kick in his shin. A light, not-meant-to-hurt kick with her heel. She glared at a few of the eyes burning into her, and her eyes flicked from left to right. ”There’s quite a few… Is the armor easy to get through?” She muttered under her breath, just barely audible. Hopefully just to the one PSICOM soldier right next to her. Looking at Naghi, she huffed lightly, before rotating her wrists again. She just hoped that her ninja stars could cut through, if necessary.
She looked down, and slowly reached towards the weapon in her back pocket, just to reassure herself it was there. She knew she would be in trouble without any weapons. Sure, Yuffie was ok with her hands and feet. She had given out her fair share of punches and kicks in her time, but it wasn’t her first choice. Her shoulders slumped slightly, and her eyes met with one of the squads. Giving him a cold glare through his helmet, she attempted to pull out of Naghi’s grip lightly. Her act needed to be realistic, after all. She swallowed, and huffed again. Why did she have a bad feeling about this? [/div]

ONE LAST THING: Sorry for the delay - had lost my muse.
Naghi felt a kick to the bottom of his leg and stopped, in character, to again glare at Yuffie for a good few seconds before pulling again to lead her towards the military men that were standing and waiting for him. Through the armor, he could barely recognize the hit, even though he figured Yuffie hadn’t put too much into the effort to kick him anyway. Still, if this came down to a fistfight between them and the PSICOM guys after he’d broken Yuffie loose from her cage, he doubted either of them would have much of a chance to win. That was why he needed to get Yuffie’s weapon back out of the armory once she was searched…and why he was glad he had his own set of daggers concealed cleanly within the back of his armor, where only someone pulling him out of the armor could find them. Having a rather large gun on his belt didn’t hurt either, even if he thought guns were completely useless to a man like him on most occasions.
And Yuffie was insisting on speaking to him. ”Shhh,” Naghi said without his helmet’s microphone turned off, making sure no one in the vicinity could hear him as he did it. Then he flipped it back on. ”Quiet, prisoner, or you won’t make it to your cell.” Apparently that was enough to alleviate any suspicion that might have come from the important-looking men standing ahead of them, as their gaze barely left Naghi and his prisoner. With a proud gait, Naghi stopped before them and offered Yuffie to one of their personal guards to be taken off of his hands. Naghi stood and saluted as he had seen many of these PSICOM soldiers do, glancing to Yuffie. ”Operative TK-421, Kaslan, with your prisoner of the day, major. We caught her attempting to hack one of our ships.” And, if the major went back to check, he would find that Naghi had infected one of the PSICOM ships with a virus that looked like a hack. Naghi would never spare any piece of proof if he could manage. ”The name we have for her is Qun’mi Tru’e.” Hopefully, if that bitch of a woman from the Milites was here somewhere, she would take the future fall for this jailbreak that he and Yuffie were about to orchestrate.
”Good work, Kaslan. We’ll take this Academy pipsqueak off of your hands for the time being. Dismissed.” Naghi saluted again and turned sharply on a heel to walk off, not giving Yuffie a second glance. He’d be where they were taking her soon enough. For right now, he needed to get to his destination.
