This place is so...creepy! The tunnels Locke made his way through were dark and dry, similar to when he was in the desert. There was a little bit of light filtering through the tunnels, generated from the lanterns that hung from the walls. His fingers trailed across the oddly smooh tunnels, and he successfully managed to avoid running into anybody or anything that might cause him harm. His 'thieving' skills came in handy as he snuck around, searching for something he could liberate. The odd creature prowled through the caverns, but the treasure hunter managed to hold his own.
So far his hunt had been unsuccessful. Though that just meant when he did find something, it would be well worth the effort. That always seemed to be the case, anyway. Locke was focused completely on his surroundings, paying attention to anything and everything that could possibly cause him harm. He didn't get this far in life by being careless. The creatures in the tunnels didn't seem all that interested in him. He got attacked occassionally but he either had the opportunity to get away, or he held his own.
Locke was so in tune with his surroundings, that it was fairly easy to notice when something changed. He could no longer hear the scrabbling of claws on the rocky ground, or the shriek of a monster further up the current cavern he was in. "Something's coming." Freezing in place, Locke turned his head to listen carefully, but he couldn't hear anything just yet. I should keep moving, though. Picking his way cautiously through the tunnels, he stopped every few steps to try and hear if whatever was in the tunnels with him was headed his way.
The going was slow, with all the stops, but he was thankful for it. After about a dozen or so pauses, he finally heard something. It was almost like a whirring sound, something cutting through the rocks around him. There was a metal staircase close by, and the treasure hunter quickly ran up the steps as the foreign noise came closer. Ducking behind some junk, he waited patiently for whatever was on its way to show itself. What he saw...was not what he expected. "What is that?!"
It looked like a monster of some sort, and it was shaving away the rock like it was nothing! A spine of blades, or at least that's what it looked like to him, encased the creature as it literally rolled across the ground making a pathway. Locke's mouth hung open as he watched the giant...thing...roll away. Jumping back down to the pathway, he reached down and touched the overturned earth curiously. "It's...warm!" He wasn't expecting that of all things. Rubbing some of the dirt across his fingers, he crumbled easily before falling back to the ground. At least it's making an easy path for me.
Locke continued on his way for a while longer before he heard the noise returning. "Uh oh." He was nowhere near any of the ruins or stairwells, he was caught in the middle. Turning and running back in the direction he came from, he could hear the creature advancing on his position quickly. Finally a stairwell came into view, and Locke risked a glance over his shoulder before swearing violently. This is gonna be close! Continuing to sprint, he made a flying leap once he was close enough and latched onto one of the rails on the stairwell. Scrambling to pull himself over it, he had just enough time to kick off of the approaching creature to give himself the momentum to get to safety. Landing hard on his back and driving the wind from his chest, he simply lay there gasping for air. "What a messed up place." he whispered as he tried to suck air into his lungs.
