"And one damn part has to be missing..."
Nike liked to think of herself as the most independent of individuals. Should a problem arise, she had never thought of someone else coming along to fix it first. No, she solved problems herself...and created them, most likely. Yet she was perfectly fine at letting others handle the boring details, especially considering how busy she'd been while, oh, just attempting to keep a bunch of morons adhering to a long-dead religion from blowing up her own race. She knew how to fix her gun and her suit and anything else she had experience with as well as anyone - she was Al-Bhed, after all. But every once in a while, tinkering had its way of frustrating, and Nike wished she had some little peon to put on the job and give him or her a deadline to get her crap fixed and get her back in the field while she was dealing with things of more importance. As it would turn out, this was one of those times, and she had no one to toss the job too.
Nike leaned over her over-sized weapon again, fingers deftly slipping between the pair of bars that served as the way she held it as she freed the part that was damned broken, scoffing at it once it was in her hand. That was the problem right now. The portal she'd taken out of...wherever the hell Cid had made her hadn't taken her to the right point in time. No, she'd ended up where some of the other warriors from Spira belonged, in a time when the Al-Bhed didn't have anything going on for themselves, Nike didn't have an army to fight for and she couldn't even get any good transportation. Having a weapon that was also a bike was typically fantastic, but it wasn't an airship. She'd had an airship before that could get her wherever she wanted to go whenever she wanted to get there, and she was very much planning on...acquiring one sometime here soon. Nike was also not the type to let a little inconvenience get in the way of something she wanted. Different time on this planet or not, she was going to get what she wanted out of it...as soon as she got this piece of shit in front of her back and working, not to mention got her suit juiced up yet again. The latter would be easy, it was the former that was a prick to her skin.
She'd acquired the garage she was working in, too....primarily by taking the lift-door and essentially shoving it out of her way, indifferent as to whether she'd broken the track it was in. Wasn't her garage, what did she care? It wasn't an Al-Bhed hangar that she was used to...or that the previous her had been used to...but it would do. Flicking the broken part to the side - a part of the barrel that happened to be very important due to the fact that it kept the gun's discharge from exploding in her own face - she gnawed angrily on her lip and loomed over the machine, thinking of ways around her problem and the means to make other problems go away so she could solve this one. Nike wasn't going to be acquiring anything of note without her gun, though she would certainly give most people here a run of their money with just the suit. It was...inconvenient, though.
She'd been hearing footsteps pass by all night, and all but a pair of drunkards from some slug's bar nearby had gone on by without a sound. The drunkards had been deterred when Nike had shot the wall beside them, not even interested enough to bother their intoxicated minds. There was another set of footsteps coming, though, and just as Nike was reaching to start on the next part of her gun that needed a touch-up, she noticed those footsteps stopped. They hadn't been the footsteps of a drunk - not a complete drunkard like the men, at least - so she didn't bother to turn, thinking it to be someone looking in or to complain about her using the garage, but not tough enough to tell her to leave anyway. Whoever they were, they were taking their sweet time...
Then, a voice.
A rough, but female voice. Accented. Making small talk. Nike kept on with her work, not bothering to turn yet, until the voice continued. Good with mechanics...Nike momentarily couldn't decide to be indifferent or interested due to the comment, but at the very least, it caused her to pull back from her work and turn to scan the woman. She was dark..not an Al-Bhed by any means, and maybe Nike could surmise she knew more than the typical plain-Jane woman in this world about keeping in shape. All-in-all, though, she probably did look a little like a mechanic if Nike had glanced her from the right angle, even if Nike's idea of a mechanic was light-skinned, blond-haired and spiral-eyed. Humans didn't have much of a right to machines, if anyone asked her. "And you're saying so because you want to offer this...'gift', is my guess," Nike said, casually, reaching over and grabbing another piece she'd gotten loose from the gun to check it against the garage lights. Partial indifference was the name of the game. She needed the woman to want to get this done for her, if it was going to be worthwhile. "Am I right in that assumption? I'd think I am."
Nike would never say it, but if she could toss this off on someone else, it wouldn't bother her. This was grunt work. [/size]

NIKE HEY THERE, THEY CALL ME NIKE AND I'M CURRENTLY 28 YEARS OLD. I'M FROM THE WORLD OF SPIRA WHERE I AM AN AL-BHED SOLDIER. I GO FOR GUYS AND I WILL THROW MY WEIGHT BEHIND NEUTRAL. ------------------------------------------------- Weapon:
BFG: Let's put it this way. Nike's gun doubles as a small motorcycle. It's big. Yep. It's a gigantic hand cannon of a thing that is as tall as she is and probably heavier, but features of her suit allow her to carry and wield it with ease. Its ammunition consists of streams of concussive energy that look as if they are hot to the touch, but instead serve more like sources of physical impact, such as ruin spells. She can utilize this energy in "bullet" form (which is mostly slugs the size of small rockets) or the aforementioned "streams" or "rays." The concussive shots have enough power behind them to shatter solid stone at close range. She can utilize it to propel herself upwards without the assistance of using the weapon as a sort of motorcycle (it has wheels attached to the bottom side rather awkwardly, so the motorcycle idea clearly was not in the initial plans for the weapon). As if all that isn't enough, the gun has a small blade attached to the underside of the barrel's opening that can be used at close-quarters, though she does usually carry a small pistol at her side for when the big gun is a little too much for the situation.
Abilities:
+Machina Suit: The most recognizable feature Nike sports aside from her recognizable blond hair is the blue suit that covers her body like a second skin. The suit runs off the most powerful energy source discovered by the Al-Bhed in Spira's future and is an absolutely state-of-the-art piece of equipment. It keeps her body temperature at a constantly comfortable state, protects from small-arms fire, absorbs multiple kinds of impact (specifically, falling impact), assists in maintaining equilibrium and grants her small boosts in strength. It's kind of epic. Oh, and it has a grappling hook. Yep.
+Force Fields: The suit's energy source has the ability to expand itself, at Nike's will, into a force field that can absorb most explosive or magical force and nearly negate it in totality. The field can only be maintained for a certain amount of time before either it cannot withstand any more impacts or cannot continue to be maintained properly, and Nike has to shut it down.
+Athleticism and Fighting Skills: As if all that wasn't enough, Nike is an immense athlete anyway, and would be quite a great fighter even without all of the technological marvels that turn her into a fearsome force. She is basically a peak athlete, as fast, strong, resilient, reflexive and flexible as anyone of her height and weight. She is also a top-notch hand-to-hand combatant, knowledgeable mainly in kickboxing and judo. She's fought opponents one-on-one without the aid of any tech before and won easily.
Personality: Nike is as much a soldier in her manikin form as she was as a typical Al-Bhed. He is a highly professional individual who is given or assigns herself a goal and then puts everything she has into achieving it, to the point that it can almost be unhealthy. She is absolutely relentless in her way of fighting for a cause. Thing is, she's never been put in a position where she's truly been in a position to outright fail, which is probably why she wouldn't quit if she ever did fail. She has almost a teenaged-girl like energy in combat. Winning breeds more winning, and Nike truly does love winning.
And she thinks she can do it, constantly. She's not the type to go bragging about herself, but she holds confidence in her ability to best anyone at anytime. If she has to start talking big, she can do it, but for the most parts she has tried to let her abilities do the talking. For this reason, some have found her aloof, but she knows when is the time to talk and when is the time to shut up and get on with business.
History: As the need for summoners' pilgrimage began its slow decline in response to the destruction of sin, so did the sway of Yevon. The Al-Bhed people and their adherence to the use of machina were no longer held under the thumb of the religious politicians, and over the years, their already strong culture grew into a powerful technological civilization. Over the course of a few decades, after the summoner who had ended Sin had died, the Al-Bhed had risen to a point of prominence that began to infringe upon the government.
It was into this world that Nike was born, raised around machina and politicking and eventually, became an Al-Bhed soldier in the war that sparked over the balance of power, following after her father, the only parent she really ever knew, who was an important officer in the military. And, due to training herself into one of the finest soldiers in their military (which didn't consist of many experienced soldiers, mostly younger Al-Bhed skilled with machina), she became one of their key vanguards in the war with the help of her suit, a new technology developed only once the war began.
Though she became more and more of a loose cannon over the course of the war, some suspecting this aggression to be due to her father's death in battle, she still helped to sway it heavily in the Al-Bhed's favor along with her extensive squad of professionals using similar technology.
