Confusion.
It was mostly the confusion, which took over his head at the moment. He was suddenly here without any recollection of how he came here. What was he doing before?
Thinking was a fruitless process at the moment. It was then he realised he forgot breathing. After inhaling deeply, the tall man with raven hair blinked and mentally shook his senses back to reality. It was like to wake up from a deep slumber.
Someone had bumped to him, walking past. It was only a reflex, when he looked back over his shoulder. His ice blue eyes met with the smiling expression of a young woman, who was openly flirting. A beautiful young woman, he added to his thoughts. But his surroundings were able to take his attention more. All this confusion and cloud of distant memories did make his head hurt.
Cid Raines was standing in a very busy street, looking around with examining eyes. He certainly didn't recognise this place. But his cloths were certainly his. He was clad in white like a knight. It was his uniform. No weapons, only a pair of white gloves on his hands.
He was towering in the street, waiting for something to happen. But nothing happened. Life always went on. That was how it was. An endless cycle, even with rushing and slowing at times.
His first step was almost lazy, as he was very used to remain motionless. But no, that wasn't the case. He could remember a fight, that how he was able to disarm a pink haired l'Cie. Of course, he could remember what happened next. Cid Raines had challenged a group of l'Cie in order to get back to road. It was meant to be a sacrifice, but sacrifices were needed at times. It was a needed one.
But he couldn't accomplish it. He could remember now. That had to be his last memory. He was supposed to gain an eternal life in a crystal state, though that was not the plan.
Yet he was missing something important here.
Raines kept on walking until he found one of the digital newspapers which was displayed for public. It had the role of an easy access library, as well as social media sources. What day was today? How much time had passed since he was gone? He quickly checked the date and started to browse through recent news to feed his hunger for knowledge.
Perhaps, the idea was crazy for anyone regular, to have a second chance in life. But Cid Raines had studied his lesson very well. He knew this day could come to get back to Cocoon in flesh and bone, but he never relied on it much. He was a soldier, he knew the risks and he gladly accepted them. Everyone had their own fears, but Raines wasn't the one to show it to anyone.
Article over article and he started to get some kind of idea about today. There was an Academy built and a war going on. There was still so many things to learn, but he needed to sit down for a bit and think over the new information in his hands. So he walked toward the nearest building and rested his back against the cold grey wall. A white gloved hand was pressed to his forehead, soft raven strands were making a certain contrast.
It was tiring to be reborn.

Fang eyed her surroundings with that same look of loathing that she almost always had these days walking around in Academia. It wasn’t that she hated what they had done to her beloved Gran Pulse, it was just that-…alright that was a lie. She hated what they had done to her homeland in the time that she had been asleep. Though she couldn’t quite blame Hope and Rygdea for its current state – since it was hundreds of years in the future now – they had started it in this direction, and they were still in control around here. So why the hell did it still look like they had just taken a chunk out of Cocoon and transferred it here? Precisely the reason she was eying it up as if it was some beast that needed to be cut down before it ravaged the land.
At the same time, she had more respect and admiration for a rampaging beast than she did this shit hole. Rolling her gaze away from the sleek buildings that lined the sides of the street they were on, Fang turned her vision to a sight much easier on her eyes. One of the only scenes in all of Academia, in fact, that had any sort of the rugged beauty that she found so irresistible. She had to admit that his idea to grab a drink had been a good one, because she could use a drink right about now, but she would have been perfectly content holing themselves up in his office for their drinks versus walking through Academia to a bar that they were going to. At the same time, Fang doubted they would just stick to drinking if they were back in his office holed up and away from the rest of society.
A wolfish grin settled on her lips and found its way to her eyes at the thought. She wouldn’t have minded that either, at least not with the man to her right. “We could be back in yer office an’ have just as good of drinks.” And not have to deal with anyone from this damned city, or have to look at any of the scenes as they were walking there. All of which turned her stomach in the need to deal with it. She supposed she would need to get used to the thought of this shit hole of a city invading her Gran Pulse sometime, but that probably wouldn’t be anytime soon. Maybe by the time she had grandchildren, she’d be more able to stand looking at the place they had developed.
…Maybe.
By chance she saw him. Having had rolled her eyes back to the putrid sight of the sleek buildings, Fang’s sharp eyes picked a certain man out almost instantly. Tall, commanding presence. “That looks loike-…shit, it is.” Reflexes drove her to curl her fingers around her companions arm to get his full attention. “Ry, look.” While she urged him to do so, she pointed at the figure standing there with his back to the wall.
{NOTES} I hope her being by Rygdea is fine Kent XD If not, just lemme know |

i gotta live my life shinin' like a diamond TAG: Fangy Fang and Raines! Words: 663
ONE LAST THING: This sucks. 8'D
The slyest of smiles, one he didn’t bother at all to hide from his walking companion, crossed Rygdea’s face at Fang’s words. He knew he didn’t have to exactly give her an explanation for recommending that they head out to a bar for a drink instead of staying cooped in his office – however nice it was to be cooped up with a woman like Fang – but Rygdea had a few words ready for her nonetheless. ”People might think yer turnin’ into a shut-in stayin’ in the office from sundown to sundown, Fang. Might think someone’s tamed the huntress.” He turned and gave her a knowing wink. ”Though, ya know ya wouldn’t mind it.” Hah, who was Rygdea kidding? Like anyone would ever want to tame Fang, and even if they did, it wasn’t like it was a simple piece of work. Heck, just convincing this woman to stop slaughtering his Cavalrymen and listen to him for five seconds had taken Rygdea making use of every single way to sway a woman that he could think of at the time. He counted talking her into heading out with him –into these streets she so despised for stretching all over her beloved planet – as his week’s greatest success.
Boy, was it good to have this lady back in his life. Rygdea had known that he missed her back when he’d first learned that, to make sure Cocoon didn’t land on everyone’s heads, Fang had sacrificed herself to become a crystal yet again. Truth be told, though, so many things had been placed in Rygdea’s hands, from the creation of the Academy to the reformation of the military to the simple task of keeping an eye on Hope for Bartholomew, that he hadn’t had a chance to fully realize how much he did miss her until now, when he finally had her back and trotting along these streets at his side. Huh, funny that it would take a worldwide disaster to give Rygdea a pretty good reason to celebrate. With the thought in mind, he turned another glance on the Pulsian who was, as he’d noticed the whole time they were walking, gathering all sorts of attention that he didn’t mind one bit.
Rygdea allowed a pleasant silence to pass over them by not adding anything to his earlier comments, knowing they’d have plenty of interesting things to say to each other once they were good and drowned in alcohol. Instead, his gaze lowered to his feet, making a sudden game of loosely matching Fang’s purposeful gait before he caught her saying something again and brought his eyes up to study the pair of green eyes. ”Fang?”, he asked her, stopping and trying to follow her gaze when he felt her fingers reach his arm. For a few seconds, his eyes didn’t let him pick up exactly what she was seeing just yet, as the passing Academics all seemed to form only a mass of heads bobbing up and down and no actual faces. But it was once he looked behind them - at a form pretty much towering over the back of the crowd, that Rygdea wondered how he missed.
Really wondered how he missed.
He completely froze in place, eyes narrowing sharply as he studied the man, as if he needed to study him. Working for a man for the better part of your initial military career tended to make him a highly familiar site. ”You gotta be kiddin’ me.”
Alright, so Rygdea knew things were pretty much screwed to hell lately and people that shouldn’t be popping up were popping up all over the damn planet. He got that. But damn if he wasn’t expecting to see this man again. Not the man he’d shot in the side of the head to put out of his own, fal’Cie born misery. Rygdea wasn’t even sure what to say or do at the moment. Instead, he remained firmly set in place, staring right at the man he’d once called Commander Raines.

A drink, some food and a bit of rest, he needed. Not exactly in that order, but all would be appreciated. Though, he really wanted to skip the rest part since he had just woken up from a bad dream. He had been gone for a long while, most likely; so sleep wasn't his friend anymore. Cid Raines didn't want to waste more time with his consciousness closed. He was going to hold off until this human body hit the limit.
Or rather, l'Cie body.
His gloved fingers were brushed against the back of his other hand, where the l'Cie mark was supposed to be. He didn't check yet, he didn't really want to at the moment. Not in the middle of a crowd of people.
So he gave out a sight and brought a hand up to his face to massage over his dark eyebrows lightly. His eyes were closed for the moment. This was really difficult. But a soldier was always a soldier. He could face with the most difficult things alone.
When he opened his eyes, his face was automatically turned at the direction he felt eyes were watching him. Two pairs of familiar eyes. It was an instinct.
They were no one else but Rygdea and the Pulsian l'Cie. Two people he had deceived in the past; quite a lot. While Raines simply used and fooled Oerba Yun Fang for his very own Focus, it was bitter to lie to Rygdea. Raines was not only his superior. They used to be friends. Close friends. But of course, the truth being revealed, he wasn't sure how much of friendship was left in between them anymore. He supposed he was about to find out.
Pushing himself away from the wall, Raines made his way toward the duo, finding this as an interesting coincidence. He was proud, as he walked, not having any hints of shame or shyness. It was almost like it was a random day without anything bad or weird happening before.
While he stopped before them, his ice blue eyes had wandered from Fang to Rygdea. A flash of memories flooded into his mind, making him remember the last time he saw Rygdea. It was a blurry memory, but it was there none the less. It was his last wish, which was granted. The mercy was appreciated, which freed him from the strings of a puppet-maker, even when it came in the form of death. Yet Raines didn't exactly remember of the pain. It felt too distant of a memory at the moment.
"I suppose you are expecting some form of explanation from me." Raines started, not looking shocked for this reunion. Though, he wouldn't be surprised either, if the Pulsian lady decided to attack him for his sins. Afterall, he had played with her and her friends, fooling them for selfish reasons. But he was ready for such. Maybe he was a little sore from not being used to move around much, but he could take a punch or two. Raines was better than that.
"I must say I am lacking what you want to hear." He added then and pulled on a more serious expression. His words came out smoothly, though. His right hand was placed on Rydea's shoulder, fingers holding tightly, but without trying to hurt him. "Thank you." It was a late coming thanking, but it came in the end. "For everything." A small yet smug smile was offered. Then he pulled his hand back and looked in between Rygdea and Fang. The Pulsian lady never had the best temper, as he knew.
"I suppose we have things to catch up on, if you are not planning to attack me." He said the last part with a smug attitude, while looking into Fang's eyes.
