It had taken her what seemed to be years, but she had finally done it.
Out of her accomplishments in life, perhaps this was the greatest one.
And my did he look good in swimtrunks. That in her mind, Rinoa turned her gaze to the side to peek once more at the man walking beside her. The sight that filled the corner of her gaze made her nearly skip a few steps in the sand, or break down in giggles. Instead all she did was smile that secret little smile once more to herself. It had taken some time, but she had done it. She had actually managed to get him in swimtrunks. Despite feeling like running back to the Academy and posting up proof of her accomplishment, Rinoa instead calmed herself and lifted her face happily to take in the sunshine that beamed down. She had warm weather, bright sunshine, and a very attractive man of hers walking by her that happened to have no pants on. Never mind that he had trunks on still.
Caught up in a moment of excitement, Rinoa transferred her towel to her left arm and reached over to link her fingers around Squall’s, giving his hand a little bit of a squeeze. At the same time she turned her beaming face toward him, eyes lit up to match the upturned lips. “I’m so excited!” For perhaps the first time since coming to this world, Rinoa felt free again.
Her expression soured slightly when she thought of her recent ailments. Quickly she turned her face back away from Squall and pretended to be extremely interested in what was happening to their left to avoid any gaze of his. He had a way of looking directly through her, which she knew and wished to avoid. Despite that, she moved a little closer and squeezed his hand again, as if drawing comfort from his presence. Besides…maybe her troubles had nothing to do with her sorceress powers and it was simply stress that was causing her blackouts. For a moment her gaze continued to stay worried, before she forced it away. Nothing…nothing, not even her recent bouts of unconsciousness, nor worry about the possibility of sorceress powers invading once more was going to damped this day. She was finally getting Squall to have some fun with her, and that would not be spoiled by any thoughts of hers.
Bringing her smile back on her lips, Rinoa once more flickered her gaze so that she was directly looking at Squall. “I wonder if any of the others are coming.”, she pondered out loud. “Or if they’ll be able to find us.” Though the beach wasn’t crowded, Rinoa still wondered if they would be able to find them. And if so-…well…she needed to stop worrying. With that in mind, she raised her hand to attempt to point toward a spot that looked inviting while balancing the objects in her hands. “That looks like a nice place to put our things, don’t you think?”
{NOTES} OKAY...I had NOOooooo idea where to put this...SO, I'm saying it's some beach near Academia...like outskirts or something. I HAVE NO IDEA. If anyone has any other ideas let me know XD |

i am aware now of how everything TAG: Rinoa and the other SeeDs! Words: 824
ONE LAST THING: Jihl, Nicht, join whenever you want. We can manage a few rounds if you guys want to show up only once things start happenin'. Squall wished there was a wall between him and the rest of the world that would permanently follow him everywhere he went on days like today.
It was all Squall could do to think up what to do to keep himself covered, considering his only means to do so was the towel that Rinoa had found for him and the tiny sack of food he was carrying also at her behest. Fidgeting would not be a strong enough word to describe the ten or eleven times Squall had moved the towel in his arm since they’d walked out towards the beach together. Still Squall didn’t feel as if he was shielded enough from wandering eyes set atop mostly-naked bodies, and in spite of the fact that he’d mentally informed himself that he needed to stop acting ridiculously, Squall cut his eyes at another group of them that he thought had glanced in his way and shifted his arm forward to keep the towel before him as a buckler against…whatever their purpose was in looking his direction. Squall had made a life of hiding behind uniforms, jackets...to have had someone actually talk him into wearing beach-suitable clothing for a trip to the beach was almost a miracle, but he’d never promised the one that talked him into this situation that he was going to be comfortable.
And she, the one convincer, wasn’t managing to make him any more comfortable. Squall felt her hand find his, and again his eyes shifted to her, only making it as far as her legs, before he immediately brought his eyes up to her face, blinking a few times before he made an awkward attempt at meeting her smile. The closest Squall had ever been to anyone in a swimsuit would be the covers of the magazines that Irvine usually left strewn around his room. Squall usually ended up trashing them or kicking them under the bed if he couldn’t be bothered making it as far as the trash. For Squall to be in the company of a girl – a very pretty one, if he knew how to judge how pretty someone was (and he probably didn’t) – who was wearing…fewer clothes than he was used to, especially what she was apparently concealing, constantly managed to make his neck light up red, as it managed to do yet again before he looked forward once more. Squall had always known he was not cut out for big social areas like beaches. He’d just never known how much.
Feeling another squeeze on his hand, Squall glanced Rinoa again only to see that she was distracted by something to the opposite side of him. For a few seconds, he wondered if the way he was acting was bothering her. He brought a hand up to run through his hair, wondering if he could say anything that might put her at ease to think he was going to manage to enjoy himself. Squall didn’t mind being here altogether, and he wasn’t going to attempt to be sour grapes the whole time only because he never thought he’d be comfortable with having no attire to hide behind. Deciding against saying anything, though, Squall only answered Rinoa’s closer step to him with one of his own, easing her arm a little closer towards him as his best idea of what to do. At least if the staring people saw him so close to a companion, they would find less of a reason to stare. Regardless, Squall avoided looking at them anymore, instead following their steps in the sand and again thinking of ways not to compare the scene to the magazine covers. Ugh, he really didn’t want to compare anything to those magazines…
Rinoa seemed to notice his actions, as her attention and smile returned. Squall managed to provide a more genuinely pleasant expression than before, before his eyes turned down again, glancing at the phone clipped to the waist of…these trunks he was wearing. ”I let Quistis and Selphie know,” he answered, giving a slight shrug. ”I still don’t know how to use this thing right, so who knows whether or not they got the message.” Obviously, Squall didn’t feel the same way about the other two women as he once had – they were his friends now, and he respected and cared as such – but a little part of him couldn’t help but hope it ended up being just him and Rinoa while they were here, both because he was getting comfortable enough with Rinoa now to make their time one-on-one worthwhile…and because he didn’t want to have to deal with any of the other women he knew showing up in swimsuits. Squall squinted his eyes shut at the thought, before flicking another glance to Rinoa and following her hand.
”Mmhmm,” came his answer to her question as he started to lead their way over. ”If you say so. I’ve never been to a beach, remember?”

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, width: 400px; background-color: #171818; padding:20px; border-top: 10px #171818 solid; border-bottom: 10px #171818 solid;] I saw you smiling at me, was it real or just my fantasy? {WORDS } 1056 {TAGGED } Squall, Quistis, Selphie! {WEARING} That one I linked! After she had squeezed his hand, Rinoa observed her companion turn his gaze to look at her, and despite the tight expression he had on his face at first, she was pleasantly surprised to see him make a sincere effort to actually return her bright smile. Perhaps that was what made her love him even more. Here he was, and it was quite obvious to her just how out of place he felt, yet he was willing to put up with it because it would make her happy. And happy it did make her feel. In the back of her mind was a promise to herself that she wouldn’t force him to do anything like this for quite some time, but now that they were here, picking their way through the sandy beach, she wasn’t so sure she could actually stick to that mental promise. It had, after all, been far too long since she had gotten to be at a beach, and she would be a liar if she said that she didn’t miss it. She did miss it, a great amount.
Her smile widened when he took his own step closer to her, and she resisted to urge to lean her head against his shoulder as they walked. She supposed she shouldn’t do so, as it would probably just draw more attention to them and make Squall even more uncomfortable than he already was. People – especially women – couldn’t usually keep their eyes off a ‘cute’ couple. So though it took a conscious effort, she resisted that urge and instead rubbed her thumb against his hand affectionately, a silent message that she was happy with his efforts to try this for her. And she knew it was just for her that he was doing this. It wasn’t an ego that led her to that conclusion, but simply knowing his personality.
Instead, she turned their conversation – or lack of one – toward a subject she had deemed as a ‘safe’ one. After all, how bad could talking about their friends be? She didn’t think it could be so bad, so she asked him about it and glanced at him out of the corner of her eyes to see his reaction. “Oh good, I do hope they come! They haven’t gotten to do much fun things since we got dumped here either, so I’m sure it would be good for them to have some just as much as for us. Besides, we haven’t done anything as a group in so long.” Well…the lack of Irvine and Zell was weighing heavily on her mind too, but she pushed that to the side for now and focused on the positive. At least they had found a few of them. With a sheepish smile she turned her attention from their missing friends to Squall. “I guess we haven’t gotten to do much of anything by ourselves either, so it might be nice to have date by ourselves too.”
Allowing herself to be led after Squall toward the place she had gestured to, Rinoa shook her head in regret for him when he mentioned that he had never been to a beach. She supposed she should have guessed from his lack of immediate desire to do anything that she generally labeled as ‘fun’, that he hadn’t, but it was still shocking. At the same time, she had to remind herself that not everyone had grown up with a rich father like she had, with every possible desire she had at hand. Sometimes she wished she hadn’t herself. “Exactly why we had to come to the beach.”, she decided with a firm nod. In a sudden burst of childish glee, Rinoa skipped a few steps to catch up with Squall’s longer legs and faster gait. “I’m so happy you came with me!”
But it didn’t take them long to get to the place she had mentioned. Close enough to the water so that it wouldn’t take them long to get there, it also was far enough away that they wouldn’t get wet. And probably to his benefit the most, it was as far from any other group as they were going to get. “Here, Squall.” Loosening her grip on his hand and letting go, Rinoa busied herself placing her towel down on the sand, as well as the few other things she had brought with her. Sunscreen, sunglasses, her phone, extra clothes to change into, a book, and a few other objects. As soon as she had weighed her towel down and kicked off her sandals, Rinoa turned to face the water and placed her hands on her hips. “Isn’t it nice?” With excitement bubbling up inside her once again, Rinoa turned and in a spontaneous burst of affection she wrapped her arms around Squall’s neck and raised on tiptoes to give him a kiss.
Stepping back after a moment, she inclined her head toward the water and gave him a bright smile. “Come on, let's go!” Turning her heel, Rinoa jogged toward the water, her laughter floating behind her.

i am aware now of how everything TAG: Rinoa and the other SeeDs! Words: 1094
ONE LAST THING: He made it through the whole post!
It was almost difficult to handle the thumb that worked at his hand in the situation that he was in right now. Squall swallowed her finger up in his own perhaps too quickly, though he doubted that she’d mind all that much. He just still wasn’t…sure how to handle her…looking as she looked, and being with him to show off the way she looked. Maybe, before they left for the day, he’d be able to wrap his head around it. When they’d only just popped free from the little shower house that led out to the beach, though, he was still having to get over the minor shock of seeing Rinoa…like she was now. The one doubt he did not have, though, was that it was because he liked seeing her this way that he didn’t quite know how to react to her at the moment. Well, didn’t mentally know. He was sure the feelings that he sometimes had around her would know how to act…hopefully not on this beach, though, with people to closely inspect them both.
Squall kept his partial wish about the day turning into a quiet one for just him and Rinoa to himself, only nodding along with Rinoa once she mentioned that it might be nice for the day to see the two of them having the beach to themselves – along with the dozens of others that were sprawled out on the beach that Squall was going to have a difficult time ignoring even if…Rinoa was very…attention-grabbing at the moment. Then again, he did feel better knowing where everyone was on this planet and trusting that they were kept safe, so it wasn’t as if having either of the other two girls who’d been stranded here with him and Rinoa would be a bad thing in the slightest…so long as they weren’t dressed similarly to Rinoa in any way. ”They’ll let us know if they’re coming, probably,” Squall said, thoughtfully, tempted to reach for his phone but deciding it would be awkward work to get at it, so he let it be for now.
He might have gotten himself into “trouble” mentioning that he’d never been to a beach before in his life. Rinoa would probably have him dragged back to this place a thousand times if she could manage it, especially with neither of them tied down to the roles that they’d been thrust into back on their own planet. Squall was no longer a headmaster, only a sort of “adviser” to the Academy so far. He’d made it clear he was not being a soldier for them, and the only fighting he was going to do was protecting – mainly protecting Rinoa in the event the war somehow reached them. Rinoa, on the other hand, had no worries about her sorceress nature so far as the SeeD knew. She also didn’t have the burden of having to worry about the situation in Timber. For all intents and purposes, they were free to be…teenagers, if Squall had any idea how to be one. ”I’m going to regret this,” he teased, so deadpan in his tone that he doubted she could tell he was teasing. ”This is how it starts. You’ll start dragging me to pottery exhibits next,” he added just as deadpan, to reveal his tease. Joking was…not something Squall was any better at than Headmaster Cid, but he did try it sometimes, and when he did, Rinoa typically could be strung along with it for a while since she rarely expected it. Maybe SeeD training had taught him how to manage it at some point, and he’d simply forgotten that he’d learned it so well.
Squall had to say he was pleased once they arrived at the spot Rinoa had indicated. They were far enough away from the bulk of the crowds that anyone who wanted to look at them would be blatantly staring; with the people on the Academy so courteous most times (when they weren’t bugging him for his gunblade technology), he doubted they’d want to be accused of staring. Squall released Rinoa’s hand and took a quick glance around them to survey the area – SeeD training again – before he started dropping his stuff onto the ground beside Rinoa’s and checked the phone as he’d previously planned to before dropping it onto his towel and standing straight again.
Seeing her kick off her sandals, he knew a more…uncomfortable part of the trip to the beach than previous was probably about to start, and already, now that she was standing away from him a few feet, he felt like he was gawking at her as much as Irvine would gawk at any woman. Squall swallowed heavily and ran a hand through his hair to stop himself, his eyes shifting down to her now-bare feet and the sand between the two of them, before she filled his vision again and before he knew it, had him by the neck. It was simple instinct that caused Squall’s hands to freely find their way to the small of Rinoa’s back as a return of the embrace, and he knew it was simple human nature that probably caused him to pull her towards him too…closely for the current situation once he felt her kiss and assisted in it, but once she’d dropped away from him and his hands fell listlessly to his sides again, he maybe wished he had more chances for instinct and human nature to act sometimes as he watched, dumbly, the girl who had just kissed him make her way towards the water. He was sure his face was either drained from the feelings he was experiencing or as red as it could possibly be.
Thankfully, Rinoa would be the only one to know that it was.
Squall wasn’t going to let her down about entering the water, but there was no doubt that…water wasn’t his favorite thing. He now knew why he didn’t like water, having run out into the rain once after Sis had left when he was a boy, but something about being submerged still rocked his psyche ever-so-slightly. Still, Squall didn’t hesitate, though the gait that took him towards the water was much slower than Rinoa’s own. He eased himself into the first of the waves, feeling them wash against his feet, before he was far enough in that his knees were even submerged. He had to admit, at this point, the water felt good, and a smile crossed his face at Rinoa’s excitement. ”You’ll need to…explain what we’re supposed to do with it.”
