"Push!"
Elena was a week early for labor. She was currently inside the delivery room of ShinRa Medical Hospital, hanging on for dear life on the railings of her delivery gurney and biting her lip until it bled. It didn't help much that her heart had been beating frantically as she pushed out her baby. Worried as well for its health.
They have been planning her wedding when it happened, she felt contractions and then sometime later her water broke, causing quite the commotion at their reception venue. All plans were laid aside as they didn't anticipate it to happen. Luckily, Rude was very attentive and proceeded to carry her out, getting her inside the chopper him and Reno used to go there, and flew her fast enough before the first signs of labor appeared.
It was exhausting, and Elena was already pushing for the last 3 hours. Her knuckles had turned white and her face was gradually losing color as the pain over took her body in spasms. Tseng, as she had learned, was on an important meeting but they had told him what happened and soon enough, she could hear shouts outside to let him in. This gave her strength; and she was determined to give her child life moreso than ever.
But fate could be a rather cruel thing.
"Just one more push, Ms. Elena." She heard her doctor say and she obliged, feeling the intruder below her nether regions finally break free and she sighed, the pain subsiding. Even with the anesthetic, the pain was unbearable but she didn't care. She finally had her daughter out.
"It's a girl..." The doctor feebly said, although there's something wrong. Why wasn't the babe crying? The nurses were busy snipping at the cord that tied her to her baby girl and she propped herself on her elbow, her training as a Turk and experiences preventing her from passing out from exertion.
"Let me hold her." She said, her voice crackling from her screams. The doctor shook her head, swaddling the baby in her arms and looking away from Elena, "Let me hold her."
"But." The doctor protested, and Elena felt her world crash; there's only one explanation and tears began to form in her eyes. She opened her arms, motioning for the baby, again repeating the words, "Let me. Hold her."
Her doctor nodded, walking cautiously towards her and giving her the baby. She was an angel; with raven-hair just like her dad's but she wasn't moving. The soft pitter-patter of tears from her mother graced her dormant face, a face very much like Wutain.
"I'm so sorry...I failed." She uttered the words, a cry of anguish rattling her nerves. She cradled her unmoving babe, shaking from the sobs, "Why? I...I've done all the things you all required me! I took care of myself! Why?!" She shrieked, her questions directed to the medical staff around her, her face a picture of fury, "Why?" She asked once more, but this time she moved, sitting up and ripping all the cords attached to her, her baby still in her arms. She was bloodstained and she felt sore, but nonetheless she felt like she just died.
And Tseng...Tseng would never accept her now, not without her child.
The truth pained her and she knew what she must do. Carefully, she settled her babe on her gourney and glared at the doctors. She had to leave, rather than see him leave her. She'd know she couldn;t take it.
But can he?
She left him once before, he was stronger than she could ever be.
And so Elena fled, from the hospital, from anyone that can recognize her. She penned a note for Rufus, asking for a temporary leave but she didn't know where to go. She knew he would understand, he was not like his father. And for Tseng...she didn't know if he would accept any explanation so she just left. And it pained her, it pained her more than anything else.
But right now she felt like she had nothing more to lose.
