This is ridiculous! I'm going to die! He thought that he would be strong enough for this mark, but by fighting his way through the plains he had lost a great deal more of his strength than he imagined he would. The Wus had thoroughly drained him. Max turned and looked over his shoulder at the creature pursuing him, and yelped with surprise as he tripped over a rock in his path. Hitting the ground hard, his bow flew out of his hand and landed a few feet away.
Groaning both from exhaustion and frustration, he rolled over to find the Enkelados standing above him. All he had to do was make it to Jahara. The Garif would likely help him, and he could distantly see the top of the settlement. The Enkelados raised a massive foot, and Max threw himself sideways to avoid being crushed. Pushing himself back to his feet, he stumbled forward to grab his bow and readied an arrow.
He was far too tired to do anything but fire a regular arrow, but all he needed to do was drive it off. He could try this mark again after he had rested up and regained his strength. His hands shook as he aimed his weapon, and he bit his lip when he tried to steady himself. Taking a deep breath, Max let the arrow fly, and allowed himself a small smile when it reached the target. Letting out a soft "Ha!" he turned and started to run once more.
The boy hadn't gotten very far when the ground started to move beneath his feet. The monster had leapt forward after shaking off the attack, and Max was taken down once more. He kept a hold of his weapon this time, but he was so tired he couldn't even find the energy to roll over, let alone fight or run anymore. I don't want to die! I just need to get up. Letting out a small whimper of fear at the thought of his death, he slowly pulled himself forward. There was an overhang a few feet in front of him. If he could just make it there...
Max risked a glance over his shoulder and found the monster stomping around behind him. He tilted his head curiously, trying to figure out what it was doing. It clearly had him. Shaking his head, deciding that it was better to just take the chance he was given, he pushed himself forward with one last surge of strength, and toppled onto the small cliff onto the hard ground below. Won't find me here. With that thought in mind, he smiled briefly before passing out.
